Hello everyone,
I hope your all well, we have just purchased our first caravan after years of camping and trailer tenting.

we have brought a second hand Avondale Rialto 640-6 2000 model millennium edition.

We are a family of 5 with two dogs so it needed to be something big.

Does anyone have any information about this type of caravan? or any caravan advice in general.

thankyou
Jo

That's great. Don't know anything about the van you have bought but I'm sure someone will be along soon who does.
Just try it out on a site close to home first to make sure everything works OK.
Enjoy!

TBH ..on every site I read and I am on lot's , the first bit of advice given from anyone who is an experienced caravanner is to make sure the tyres on the van are good.

Weight is always an issue, more so for 5 of you. You need to question it all the time!

Apart from essentials, don't buy anything from the accessory shop until you are certain you really do need it. This can be an expensive hobby.

Whatever you want to acquire, always check other similar products, avoiding steel whenever possible, to compare weights. It may only seem like a kilo here and a kilo there, but it soon adds up.

There is often a temptation when replacing something at home, to put the old one in the van - don't do it - domestic stuff is usually too heavy

Later, its worth going through the van and having a clear out every so often of stuff you don't use.

KEEP IT SIMPLE. If you need a TV when you're camping, you're going to the wrong campsites. Look around you, drink in the view. Live in the moment. Go for a walk - then you'll live longer! If you need domestic batteries, you're going to the wrong campsites. Get an EHU (electric hook up) on the campsite or don't use electrical inconveniences, they just complicate life. Keep it simple as the people in tents do. Your caravan is well insulated and waterproof, what more do you want? We take a 2 litre old milk bottle and fill that up with water from the tap on the campsite. when the milk bottle is past its best, get another one. Use the communal dish-washing facilities - you find out all the gossip there and make friends. Caravans are for the summer. Don't take the caravan when you're going skiing. See what I mean?
