After nearly fifty years of caravanning we're on the point of selling up. The 'van is in storage some distance away so arranging viewing would be an issue, but in any case I really can't be bothered with the hassle of selling privately. I've never sold privately, I've always traded in.
Has anyone any experience of using a firm which will sell for you? Obviously I know I'm going to lose money because they will want and deserve their commission, if it's reasonable.
I can get quotes from places like Lowdhams. But I'm really interested in hearing from anyone, who has used this system, about their experience. Was it reasonably pain free?

I would try ebay to be honest.

I have sold 2 vans, one for £12,500 and one last week for £14,500. Both sold within a week of the advert going on to the first person who viewed them. Payment via bank transfer and off they go.

Costs £14.99 for a classified ad on ebay.

Agree with the above. I would rather be in charge of selling and looking after my own money than leaving it to someone else, who could potentially rip you off!!!

Doubt if a dealership would sell it for you as they would then have to honour and repair any faults with the caravan under the CRA 2015 so too much hassle for them even if they are making £1000 or more on it.

There are dealers out there who do it, we have one near us Broad Lane Leisure. Not sure what they charge though, and you have to consider there will be all sorts viewing your van every day that you still own it. At least when you sell yourself few people will be wondering around your van and you can show how everything works rather than it being broken etc..

Another potential problem could be Security and Insurance cover whilst sitting at a dealers premises.

I doubt a dealer would cover it under their Insurance?

Thank you all very much for taking the trouble to reply. I take on board all the potential pitfalls. As I said, Lowdhams and others do sell for you, so they must have their own angles covered like guarantees etc.
I did contact Lowdhams. The lady I spoke to said she thought my van might be too old for them to offer the service (it's a 2007). She said the man in charge would get back to me. He still hasn't. So I'll follow your advice and try other ways of selling. Thanks again.
