I purchased a new sprite major 4 berth f/b on the 04/06/2016 on the 06/07/2016 I went back to my local dealer who I purchased from with some photos of the front windows showing the handles and a crazing effect flowing away from the handles on the acrylic windows. I asked for them to be replaced I was told not a problem they would be replaced under warranty I was reasonably happy that it was being dealt with. over 1 month later I had not heard from them no phone calls or communication so I went back to the dealer no they had not been ordered they told me they were not covered under warranty and were waiting to talk swift as they shut down over the month of August no dates for the repair was given. so I contacted Trading Standers who advised me to send a hand deliver letter giving them one last chance to repair the caravan under the consumers rights act 2015 not waiting till the end of august this was hand delivered on the 12/07/2016 within a few days I was contacted by phone asking for more pics of the windows and of any snagging issues I emailed them to the dealer and also a picture of a tray above the toilet which is not fixed and is coming away these files were quite large and I was not sure weather They had received them so I went into the dealer and was told they had received the photos and have or will be ordering new front windows and had sent the photos of to swift so now we are at the 29th of August again no phone contact again or communication for this last month which now is three months from the date of purchase I have had no use of the caravan over these last three months it is stuck in my side Garden the summer will soon be over the only option I feel will be to ask for my money back and go else were to be fair it is not the dealers fault it is the manufacture of the windows who seems to be opting out of his responsibilities but also the dealer had one whole month in July to sort this out to I will wait to the end of august and if there is no sign of it being repaired will go back to trading standards s to see how to get my money back possibly through the courts if a amicably settlement can not be reached. (This is my tale of woe) Terry from Cranham Upminster
Hello Geoff and EMMY Thank you for that I did know.
as trading standards had told me that the warranty was incidently to my legal rights but i thought as they has said they were going to order the windows i will give them the benifit of dought seems being nice gets you no were these days I will be going back this thursday or friday and I do not think they will be to happy with what i have got to say Thanks again and best wishes Terry
You have legal rights when purchasing a thing which cannot be taken away from you. Basically these are that whatever you buy must be fit for purpose and be of proper quality. Any additional warranty cannot subtract from these rights and must only add to them (e.g 10 year damp warranty).
Your contract is with the dealer and you must take no bull***t from them, although there's nothing to stop you staying in touch with the manufacturer. You can threaten them with legal action and say this will be at their expense when the case is settled.
Additionally, if you have used hire-purchase finance (but not a personal loan) to pay for some or all of the purchase you can contact the HP company to say you are suspending payments and tell them why (in effect you are protecting them also since they are part-owners). I'd be surprised if you even got to the next payment date before the HP company came down on the dealer like a ton of bricks.
Unfortunately the dealership is the weak link in the caravanning world - light years away from the service from car dealers. Good dealers are worth their weight in gold.

HELLO Geoff & Emmy, Thank you both for words of support the light is know at the end of the tunnel next week I am taking the caravan into the dealer to have all the front windows replaced I did contact swift as you suggested who were very apologetic and Hurried up the delivery of the windows apparently the issue was between the dealer swift and the makers of the windows this problem goes back some years with De lamination and crazing of the windows the makers have known about this and apparently have been making lots of money at caravan owners expense there is a new mod to the windows from September the gap between the inner and outer window has been increased to 6mm well documented on the internet but i still say keeping a new owner waiting 4 months to fix a problem is totally unacceptable if this industry wants to continue in new markets then they will have up there game and start to perform far better than this regards to you both and for all other comments thanks again Terry
16 weeks to get parts from a caravan manufacturer is not uncommon.
