Hi,
I wonder if anyone can advise us on inflatable porch awnings as we are relatively new to caravanning.

We have a small 2 berth caravan and we think that we may get away with an inflatable awning 200 cm but if this does come slightly over the window will it still be fit for its purpose?

This is our first caravan and we want to use it as much as possible so an easy porch awning would be really useful however the air ones are quite expensive so I want to get it right when I purchase one.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

We have a sunncamp 220 air porch.use it early and late season, stores boots, coolbox and chairs. It's quick to put up. We have a 420 for the rest of the time. It covers bedroom window. No problem. Look at all options. Make sure any external lockers, power points and whole windows are easily accessible.

Tbh, we have now tried both types of awning, Air and Poled versions of the Kampa rally awnings, and im not convinced that the Air awnings are worth the extra money. Its true that they are good in high winds, but they also require more attention once they are up as differences in tempreture, hard to gauge pressure, and some deflation over the threeweeks ours was up, made for it being part of our daily chores to check if it needed a ' top-up'.

Our old poled version of the Kampa 260 is still going strong into its 7th season. Its easy to erect, and once its up, it needs little attention, apart from using the storm straps if high winds are expected. Depending on your model of caravan and the length of the level awning rail available, you should find an awning to fit your caravan, as porches start at just 1.5mtr wide. You may be suprised by the size that will fit, our Air awning is a 390cm fited onto a 462 caravan, making almost a full awning, and skimming the front side window edge with about 10cm to spare.

Whatever you buy, try and get the rear upright poles that help seal the real ende of the awning to the caravan, they are well worth the money for both air and poled versions alike. If you do decide to buy Kampa, the clip on storm straps are also a wise buy.

Try to avoid fouling windows with the edge of the awning if you can, after long term wear the friction of the flapping fabric can cause fine scratches on the plastic surface of the the windows.

Ditto the above, ours is 5 years old now, takes little time to put up and take down, super lightweight. Best awning we have ever had for touring........And very reasonably priced too.

I have an inflatable easy camp. It's great, one person can attach in to the van and inflate in under 10 minutes. Never had a problem with pressures or deflation.

We have totally replaced our standard awning for our Kampa Rally Pro Air 330. It is great! I don't get worried if the wind gives it a battering, it holds its shape. No bent or broken poles or dinged aluminium sidewalls.

Inflatable awnings and tents are not new. They have been in use for years with Police/SOCO and other professions where a quick erection (no sniggers please) is needed. They are only really new to the leisure industry. They are improving all the time too. Out Kampa is in its 3rd season and is as good as the day it was bought. There is some nasty cheap imitations out there which are probably best avoided.

We also have the Suncamp 220 and find it a good cheaper end of the market awning. Stood up to storm Katie at Easter this year in Dorset with no problems. Would recommend this one. We bought our at the NEC last October.
