We are very, very close to making the final decision on whether or not we will be full timing in around 4-6 months time. We've got most of the questions answered and problems thought through (ie, post!).
We are currently only really stuck on the type of caravan and also a location which may or may not cause the biggest issue - to be decided!
I'm hoping if you full time, live seasonally or do month-long stints, that you will share a paragraph or two about the good, the bad, the ugly. The fun, the not so fun and generally anything helpful you've learnt over the time you've called your caravan home that you wish you knew before!
Thank you :)
------------- Please forgive my 1000's of questions - still learning!
Hi CheshireCat,
My wife and I took early retirement and ran away to live in various caravans for 10 years or so.
we went to Spain for the winters and found employment in various campsites/caravan parks.
On the whole it was a great experience.
Words of caution... IT'S NOT ABOUT AFFORDING TO DO IT, IT'S ABOUT AFFORDING TO STOP DOING IT.
Don't go burning bridges.

Hi, we do about five months over winter, we mostly live in the awning, it's where we have our kitchen set up so no cooking in the caravan unless we absolutely need to. That awning is constantly heated with a low watt heater, takes any chill off. First time we did it we had loads of stuff we never used so that was ditched on return, we have a caravan twin tub which is great for our washing and doing the dogs stuff. To be honest we live very comfortably although we do it abroad and not in UK although do caravan in UK up to the point of leaving
Being retired We do a month at a time We have found going electric is much cheaper than buying gas so slow cooker. halogen oven etc also something with alde heating and we have also fitted a small plinth heater for those chilly nights
One of the best moves we made was putting decking under the awning. That coupled with a decent layer under the carpets (our old tents), very well insulated and off the wet ground. Agree with a lot of comments above halogen cooker not cooking in the van etc. Enjoy:-)
One of our best buys was a bathroom light/heater combined, comes in at about 4 amps. Suspended over the table in the awning the heat and light are exactly where we want it to be when we are eating, playing cards etc. Good idea about flooring in the awning, we don't as we move around a bit and it would be too much weight to carry, a breathable awning carpet does us fine. Our one regret is not buying an awning that had the window flaps on the outside, the ones that can be let down on a night time as opposed to faffing with ill fitting curtains, still we will know for next time.
