Caravan emptied and tucked up in the garage.

Managed 136 nights camping on the continong, failed to see the golden oriole but had a good time.

Costs of camping now risen to €12.68 per night

Because everybody does it different with different caravans. For some the caravan is a means to an end, ie just a box to sleep it at somewhere you want to be & for others, an end in itself, ie a house on wheels that is regularly traded in for the latest model.

If your purpose of caravan ownership is for accommodation in warm places then one might see no merit in sitting in a muddy field in Norfolk asking "are we having fun yet?" just because we have a caravan & feel we must use it to justify the cost of of it.

That's it for us this year too. In fact that's IT for us.   We've very very reluctantly had to sell our treasured Motorhome after months of indecision.
We had to return from Southern Spain in a mad panic last February because our daughter, 48, had had a massive stroke. ( Non smoker, occasional drink, normal weight, fit and happy). She was in hospital for 4 months and she's been left paralysed on her right side ( she's right handed).   Communication is more or less ok now but she struggles to find words, cannot read or write, use a phone or laptop.     The NHS and the stroke rehab team have been absolutely brilliant. She is now back in her own adapted house ( just near us) and shuffles around with a stick.   Her right arm is completely useless but the excellent work the physios have done means there is movement and some use in her right leg.
We have carers and a home help in place but we are really first in line and obviously cannot go off on long European road trips anymore.
We are trying to be positive however, Our lovely daughter is still with us , She continues to make progress, and has a good family and 2 children ( 20's ) around who all pitch in.
Maybe we'll look at a different type of holiday in time, a short burst in , Dare I say it.... A Hotel !! Aaaaaaaagggghhhhhh !!!

Rob and Cheryl ( The Natural Blonde ) xx

PS   Stuart, The Sandringham Estate hosts several pairs of Orioles in the summer months. If you can find them !!

Thanks Stuart and Nick j , Hey everyone, don't stop the comments on this blog. We love all these Camping , Caravaning and Motorhome stories and comments. We may go back to it in time. I just saw Stuart's blog this morning about tucking up the Caravan and it prompted my reply because of our current situation.
Hope you all have great winter trips, South Eastern Spain around La Isletta and Los Escullos ( Acsi) was our favourite. Not to mention Granada, Toledo, Segovia, Avila, and a couple of early summers ago, Castrojirez Nr Burgos on the Camino, where we shared our pitch with a family of Hoopoes and had fleeting glimpses of a Marsh Harrier. Happy Days ...

Rob

Rob & Cheryl - Thinking of you. (we have been in a similar situation but managed by sometimes shortening our time abroad; so don't give up hope of travelling again.) Hope you stay around on this *forum which does seem to have very few MH'ers! We also share your love of Castrojirez nr Burgos - we were on same site in May this year. Will be going back - have wonderful Spanish friends in Burgos and despite being in our 70's we are currently doing a Spanish course at our local college. (As usual, I'm crap and she is a natural linguist if not a natural blonde ...)

Ref the O.P. - Good on you Stuart - put it to bed - nothing personal but this means our main season can now begin - Cornwall later this month, our *Club Christmas Rally in the frozen midlands in December and hopefully Spain in Jan/Feb and again in April/May; our travel is now much easier not having to negotiate queues of caravans on our local roads as well as the M5 etc? ) (However our hardy club members do include tuggers who use them all year round; mind you they are in proper 'winterised foreign vans'!) A further thought Stuart - are you bragging 'cus your garage is big enough for a caravan? Just sayin'.

*Am still searching for a forum called 'Motorhoming/Campervanning Abroad' so please don't bully me for my comments ... I think some of you tuggers are quite lovely. 'Are we having fun' yet?

Iggy

It is a small caravan, 1.98 metres high.

I was not intending to brag but am now basking in the glow of other people's envy
