Hi,
I'm in the process of looking to buy a caravan, I've been offered an 2001 4 berth Avondale Osprey, included I could have an awning, I wanted an air porch awning but the dealer came back and said they don't make any porch awning for it as the roof is too low! They have offered me a Pyramid Bermuda full size one instead, I'm not keen on having a full size or pole and can't find this on the Internet anywhere! I'm wondering whether to ask for money off the van and no awning. Do you know if there is a porch one which fits or how I can find out? Have any of you heard of pyramid Bermuda ?

Quite a few Pyramid brand awnings for sale on ebay, so it's probably second hand???
You would be able to get a porch awning I would suspect, just a case of measuring how far along the van you want it to go, ideally avoiding coming down over a window.

Thank you for your reply, I think the pyramid is a new one probably old stock of there's. I'll probably have to take the one offered as it seems impossible to find any to fit. I was wondering what other Avon dale owners use?

I think this is a common problem with porch awnings. We bought an air-awning for our elderly Elddis last winter and it is not a good fit because of the height. We have a porch awning that fits much better, and this is a Trio-Midi. However, it does have metal poles.

Probably the height of the awning rail is the problem. Newer vans are much higher than the older ones.

Bigger wheels, square sides, more internal head room all adds up.

That's certainly the case with mine, Navver. Most newer vans have a flat roof too, whereas older ones like mine have a pitched roof, meaning that the sides are lower.

Yes, they said the rail was 220 and they are all 235, I was after an air porch but been advised to look for a drive away motor home awning

Isabella/Ventura used to make shorter awnings to fit lower awning rails such as on the Avondales. I had an Avondale Eagle from 2003 to 2006 and purchased one of these shorter awnings, I don't know if they still make them, you could try contacting them to find out.

Is it possible for you to ask if they will show you the awning on the van or even through the rail then you can see the condition. Don't worry that they are poles I have seen some of the air awnings and they are not very easy either . We have been using pole awnings on porch large porch and a full awning and they are all brilliant . I'm sure it will be fine but I would ask to see it first .

the avondales have a one piece wrap around fiber glass roof.. it sits on the top of the van like a lid and overlaps the sides.. much less likely to leak than your average van roof but it brings the top rail 6 inches or so lower than average..

the ones with the bird names have this roof.. the osprey being one of them..

and the simple solution would be to raise the caravan on 15cm ramps, then you can have the awning that you wanted
