Guys we are going to use the van through the winter. However only on short weekend breaks,so no awning.
We did go way last year in Nov however the wind was freezing and blowing directly through the fridge vents, which is very noticeable with no awning on the van.Is this preventable if so how? I've been told covers can be used however are they safe ,we only use van on EHU.
We have some covers, they just clip on and stop draughts and help the fridge work in cooler temperatures. Once the temperature is in single figures we put them on.
I wouldn't recommend just covering the vents though, you'll be able to get the correct covers off eBay or from your local caravan dealer.

They advise to use winter fridge vent covers when the temperature drops to 8 degrees celsius or below to stop the fridge from over cooling and make it operate more efficiently. However, the plastic covers specifically designed to fit the existing external fridge vents do not cover them fully as there is a gap at the bottom of each vent to allow sufficient ventilation.
The winter fridge vent covers are available from most caravan accessory shops and online.
Thanks so if I check on E bay or the likes I just ask for winter vent covers and they click onto my existing ones.Or do I take normal ones off and fit winters.
The winter vent covers are fitted in just a few seconds. Each vent has two small round clips at the top and what you do is turn them horizontal with a screwdriver, push it on the vent then turn the clips a quarter of a turn so they are vertical to secure it and that's it. When you are packing up, just turn the round clips horizontal and remove from the existing external vents.
Typical winter vents can be seen in the link below.
You need to measure the length and width of the external vents but if you phone up a caravan accessory shop and provide the year and make of caravan they should be able to help in identifying the right ones.
I use this caravan accessory shop quite often because they are very knowledgeable and there isn't much they don't know about new and old caravan spares. Give them a ring on the number at the top because if they don't know then I can't advise any further. However, they may require the size of the fridge vents fitted on the caravan in order to supply the correct winter vents or they could even supply you with the Thetford part numbers.
