Exactly what we did Maggie. We have a lovely site not 10 minutes drive away, so we went there. We could have been anywhere really.
As for over winter, fortunately ours is at home so I can check on it easily, but all I have done the past 2 winters is remove the food, drain the water, and leave the taps open. Its been fine so far, even though its 28 years old!
