I've just read on another post that having outside table and chairs is frowned upon....this true? Not that I care what other people thing to be honest! I want to make our caravan feel like home from home an as I don't like awnings, was planning on taking a nice bistro set wherever we go...does anyone else do this? Also wondered how safe they would be left out overnight?
Hi
Have seen motor homes with this set up, and left out all night on a Haven site.
I don't see any problem with it, and as far as being frowned on, are they wishing they had it.
Your van your pitch enjoy it how you wish.

Hi,
Never come across objections to tables and chairs, as long as you are on your own pitch and not encroaching on a neighbour.
Lots of people leave their stuff out overnight.
Some people fold their gear and slide it under the van to avoid the wind and weather.
Regards,
Greg
I agree completely with Ray. We have a table and chairs that we normally keep in our awning, but when the weather's fine they go outside. Can't see any problem with it.
I agree Roy....hoping to spend as much time as possible sitting/eating outdoors. That's a good idea Greg....popping it under van over night....extra security too. I have a lovely small wooden bistro set...I'd hate it to go walkies! X
Never heard of that happening. As has been said as long as you do not encroach on other peoples pitches. Great thing about caravaning is being able to sit outside and enjoy the rays
"5.3.2 - the unit (along with any ancillary equipment) must fit within the confines of your pitch whilst maintaining the 6 metre rule. If this cannot be achieved you may need to purchase an additional pitch (if available) or remove the ancillary equipment;
5.3.3 - toilet tents may only be erected within the confines of the pitch; and
5.3.4 - all loose equipment needs to be stored within the confines of your unit."
I guess the last one means that when not in use tables and chairs should be inside (or underneath where applicable?) one's awning/caravan/motorhome etc possibly to avoid damage to other units in windy conditions.
Non-Club sites, of course, might not have such a requirement.
No I'd not heard or even thought of it either....just read it on another post. An that's the huge appeal about caravaning....the great outdoors an freedom. An what a good point Hacksaw Bob from a safety aspect....under the van they will go! X
Our table and chairs go in the awning when we are not around or if the weather's bad. If we are not using the awning, they go under the van. Never had a problem.
Don't know where the idea of "no tables outside" originated, I've never heard of it before. Just as a matter of interest, can you remember where you saw it Sonia?
It's also mentioned in Vicarious' Books article* on Aires De Service Camping Car (French motorhome stopovers):
"The law only permits 'Self Contained' motorhomes to be parked responsibly and their users to cook and sleep within them. A self-contained motorhome needs to have a toilet, water container for both fresh and waste water attached to or inside the vehicle, and you must be able to cook and sleep inside the vehicle. The law does not allow for camping, for example winding out awnings and putting out tables and chairs, or erecting a tent. If you want to camp, use a campsite."
The C&CC rule is so British and absolute tosh. Abroad, our Euro friends leave everything out, usually under a simple sunshade, as foreign vans rarely seem to have full awnings.
I was going to join the C&CC....I wonder if I will have problems with this?? Really really don't want an awning. I want to open the caravan door an have the fresh air just hit me. Think I'd find an awning restricting an a little claustrophobic. At a push I could have a windbreaker type thing to define my pitch an at a bigger push a sun canopy.
Never come across the problem with C&CC sites. Been using them for donkey's years.
The post from Hacksaw Bob is clearly specific to French transit sites not camp sites.
