I am unlikely to be using my towbar setup on my car as we use the wife's land rover for towing. I fitted it for a bike carrier. I have fitted the towbar but not installed the electrics yet. There is a manufacturers wiring loom for towing which is dedicated to the car, but it is £131 which happens to be the combined price I paid for the towbar and the 'universal' wiring supplied.
Running the wire to the battery will be the biggest pain. Especially as I am very unlikely to use it, but I am undecided on whether to bother. The job would be simpler if manufacturers used types of connectors on their looms that are obtainable, but they don't. As our caravan is now in Spain and we fly out to it, I have no need at all to power fridges etc. I might connect it up and omit the link to the battery. If everything works then I will leave it and connect it up later if needed. The question is whether the towing supplementary ECU needs to be powered by this lead. There is one way to find out - by setting up without it.
Now I have looked again at the wiring diagram it looks as if the grey and orange are for the fridge and charging the caravan battery. It seems the red lead might be for powering the towing ECU. So I might just leave the grey and orange connections.

I have tried them and they just supply looms. I have decided that as I won't be towing with it ( just using it for a bike rack ) then I will leave the electrics for a while. Perhaps when the warranty runs out in a few years or if we did get a second caravan. My bike doesn't obscure lights so thats fine.
