We went to a site in Woolacombe a couple of years ago, and we used the A361 route. Its a good road, but very hilly, as is the whole area. Beautiful though.

Been going to croyde for years which is round the headland from woolacombe
If I was heading to woolacombe I'd go into broughton and out up the a631.
We've taken a twin axle right into croyde with no issue and roads are better into woolacombe.
Word of warning though. In the summer broughton is a huge bottle neck and can take ages to get through. Just something to be aware of.
The area is stunning, hence why we have been so many times.
If you will be on the beach a lot I would strongly advise you pick a site within walking distance. Parking is extortionate all along that coast. And I might be wrong, but, I think croyde offers the best "walk to beach" options campsite wise.
Hope that helps. Happy to help with any info about the area!

Head for Barnstaple then on to wolocombe, easyist route in . We stay at stowfor farmmeadows often which is about10 mins away. We tow a trailer if I was tOwing a van I would go from Barnstable and across.

I'll second that, lovely site and sunsets to die for. Nice walk into Woolacombe but a good uphill walk on the way back!

A361 is good, suggest you use the new bridge at Barnstaple (not Barnstable, that's in America).
Using the bridge you avoid going through the town which can be a bit of a traffic jam and there are fairly tight roundabouts to negotiate,
it's the town bypass to Braunton (not Broughton).
The A399 is a good road, just skirting Exmoor, A399 onto A3123 (joins A361 at Mullacott Cross), I've towed caravans on both, neither route gave problems..
I live at south Molton not far from Barnstaple and off A361

Either way is fine, braunton can get busy in the summer months but not too bad, I'm in Barnstaple
