Was in the Yorkshire Dales on a rally a few weeks back and having just got a new Avtex TV, got a fantastic HD picture using the stick aerial for the first time.
My last 11 year old Avtex did not have a digital tuner so always has to use a sat receiver & dish.
I found that the Avtex stick aerial on my van was fine in good signal areas, but anything less than good was virtually un-watchable.
Ive gone for one of those "flying saucer" type dishes from Milenco, works a lot better, but still not perfect.
I think the best advice is if you think you'll watch a fair amount of TV on holiday (cant guarantee the British weather after all) then the best idea would be to go for the setup where you have a "proper" TV aerial on some sort of tripod stand. I spoke to a bloke last year over in Keswick and he swore by it, five minutes to set up and then he just pegged it down.
our van is a 2014 elddis avante with that aeriel. We regularly caravan and have never once had a picture from it.Even on sites where everyone else was getting perfect pictures. I wrote to Avtex and had it back at the dealer who rewired but to no avail. I now have an old fashioned jockey wheel aeriel designed for caravans that collapses down for storage and it has never let us down, like the one described above. wish I had bought it years ago, even with our last van which had the flying saucer type arrangement which you had to footer for hours with. It has performed in the Scottish highlands , the lake district and on sites where others have struggled. I notice that these aeriels are not being used by Elddis( or anyone!) anymore and our dealer says he has had nothing but complaints. My advice go for the old fashioned but 100% reliable aeriels. The one we got comes with fixings to attach to the jockey wheel and peg down . You don't even need a tripod. Cost about £60 but money well spent!
Any chance of a link to the type you have? its just that I personally don't watch too much TV in the van, prefer to be out and about. But my parents use it from time to time and they cant be without their fix of CSI

The kit is especially put together for caravans and everything is included, all the brackets and fixings and clear instructions on how to assemble. It is one continuous pole, which can be adjusted and collapsed so you don't need a separate mounting pole or tripod. It is light and usually only takes about 5 mins to erect. I peg mine down just for extra stability but unlike any other aerial we've had, we have never not got a picture and we caravan mostly in mountainous areas where getting any signal is tricky. Just wished we hadn't persevered with the avtex stick for so long.
I've found that some of these type of aerials are fairly poor if you are some distance from the TV transmitter. I find that you can't go far wrong if you supplement or replace the stick with a more directional Yagi aerial, set at the correct polarity for the area that you ae in.

Hi,
I have also had mixed results with the stick aerial.
I bought one of the below along with the signal booster and we just slot it in the window seal rubber and have had great results with it.
It avoids a costly replacement on the roof.

Greg
We bought one of these and took it back as it didn't work for us. I think the rule here really is if you camp/caravan in flat areas near transmitters you can get a picture of sorts on most aerials.we live and mostly camp in scotland and the north of England and these types of aerials even with the booster didn't work.we spent a fortune on gizmos and boosters to get a picture and the one I mentioned above has never let us down so if you want a pretty foolproof aerial you can't go wrong.read the blurb on the link the guy knows his stuff.
