We have just bought our first caravan (Lunar Cosmos) which we collect next week. It has a lounge and a dinette, and we are thinking of leaving the dinette made up as a fixed bed. This obviously means we are sleeping on our dinette cushions, rather than a mattress. It seems to be the same shape and size as a usual fixed bed (with bottom right corner short).

I'd like to know what people do about mattress toppers and bedding?? Do most people just buy normal double, or duvalay (expensive and I like double!). I'd just like to pick people brains please :)

I'm sure I'll have lots more questions too, as we are first timers. Thankyou

Although they are expensive initially, I would highly recommend the Duvalay mattress topper. We have the double bed topper at home and the actual Duvalays for the caravan, have had them 5 and 8 years respectively and they are still as comfortable as when we got them. I suppose a lot depends on how much you're going to use your van, whether you can justify the expense!
Bedding wise I would use a fitted sheet over the topper and a duvet, like at home.

I just use a double sim, ie self inflating mat that I previously used in a tent on top of the made up dinette. I use a single duvet on top of that to lie on & then a double duvet on top.

If you search 'memory foam mattress toppers' on ebay there are plenty of suppliers that do double toppers for around £70 or less. They come tightly rolled. You need to unroll & leave to ventilate for a couple of days to get rid of chemical smell but they work well enough.

We bough at foam topper, smells a bit bad at start but soooooo much more comfortable. then a 2" topper we bought prior to this that is just to tidy it up and a really good double sleeping bag (no possibility of a draft)

Sounds OTT but its super comfie and as was bought in stages not to dear. IF you can a cut to shape mattress may be your best bed and use as at home with bedding.

We have the same design van and use a Dunelms topper, then I put a mattresses topper over that and then the sheet. Looked at foam toppers but felt they would be too hot also also more expensive. A double of everything fits well even with one side shaped. Suggest you try this before paying out a lot more.

I think we've got the same van as you. We find the double bed comfortable as it is and use sleeping bags.

Thankyou for the replies. I think I'll start looking at the cheaper options and see how we get on

We're first time caravanners too, for our bed we use a thick mattress topper bought from Aldi and then a sheet with our duvet, pretty much same set up as at home and has proven to be very comfortable! Not cost much either!

We are in the same position as you. We were originally planning mattress toppers but found that they were too bulky to store if you want to put bed away. Instead we use 2 duvets. We use one heavy weight duvet and one lighter weight duvet and use accordingly one under us and one over depending on weather.   Dont feel joins of cushions. Easy to wash covers and stow away easy under seats if needed.
Much cheaper too than toppers of a decent thickness.
Regards
