We have a Snooper 5800, use it mainly for the camera and we navigate to sites with maps or local knowledge. Technology is good but I wouldn't rely on it, the wife does most of the towing and prefers me to guide us, as required.

I had a bad experience with car satnav while trying to get to Eskdale from the NE coast, following which I invested in a Garmin Camper satnav, into which one programs one's car/van or camper dimensions and its supposed to keep you clear of unsuitable roads.
Frankly, I wouldn't bother again as it often deems unsuitable roads as fine. Nice big 7" screen though.
A bit of planning with Google Maps does the trick.
I had exactly the same experience with the Garmin Camper 660. I rang Garmin, and they suggested amending the vehicle profile. Instead of entering the strictly correct dimensions, enter for example a typical HGV width, height etc, to fool the device into working with a larger vehicle.

I have a garmin camper 760 lmt, with live traffic and maps for life, 7" screen i'm planning on selling it as its a bit to big for my car windscreen.

We have the TomTom via 125 which came with a car map. However, we've updated it with the TomTom camper maps for Europe which are great. I'm assuming you can update any TomTom device with the camper maps.

We have done the same and its been pretty reliable.
However Jonnmedds is right to put a note of caution as there are some new models of TomTom that won't accept the Camper Maps. Before committing to buying I would suggest a visit to the TomTom website to investigate. A further confusion is that some models of the same name might take the maps and other won't so be careful.

I had a tom tom go live 5000 which is a brilliant unit, but Tomtom camper maps wouldn't work, they've actually scrapped the camper model now

Am I right in thinking that the laws on satnavs are changing,Sure I read somewhere that it will be illegal to use a car satnav when towing or driving a vehicle that the satnav is not specifically built for.
i could have dreamt it ((been on strong painkillers lately,so been a bit hazy))LOL
