Help!! Just got back from our first weekend away with our very first caravan - 1999 Elddis Typhoon XL. Managed to get parked and everything hooked up, which given our lack of experience was a feat in itself!! When we hooked up the fresh water and plugged in the whale pump everything seemed to be ok and I could hear the water heater (cascade) filling up. The water was coming through the taps and getting warm but when I looked out of the window to where the water hog was connected I could see water spurting out from just below the connection and also a bit further along the van where the vent for the water heater is!!! Can anyone tell me if this is because there is a leak somewhere or whether we have failed to do something as part of the set up?? I'd be very grateful for any advice before I call someone to have a look at it. Thanks, Cee-Cee
Looks like you have water coming from the heater drain plug, just tighten it up or could it be missing?. You should also have a couple of clips to hold the pump connection in the inlet socket.
Hi. The hot water tank has a drain switch or plug somewhere. You have to close it before you fill up and also remember to open it and drain the tank before you hitch up to you car again. This will be the water coming out by the heater.
The water coming out by the inlet could be the pump wasn't pushed in fully or maybe the rubber washer is worn/damaged/missing? These are easy to replace and cost pennies.
Thanks Checkley1973 I'll check that out. The water was spurting out when we opened the taps but stopping when the taps were closed??? Does this follow with your theory?? Thanks. Ceecee.
I find that strange - if you had a leak - it would not stop when the taps were closed. Are you sure the one spurting out of the side of the caravan was not just the drain from the sink ?

It will stop when the taps are closed, because the pump will not then be working.
If it stops when taps are closed it will be pump connection. Just keep trying to push it in properly and testing with someone else opening a tap so you can see if it's ok. This happens on ours occasionally, just have to persevere a bit. Think the rotating clips and the washers can wear out as well though, if the problem remains.
------------- I went to the top of the mountain...and looked over the other side!
The pump would stop if the taps were micro switch type. They will click when you switch them on and off if they are. It is a 1999 van so maybe, maybe not.
