Hi

What do folks do re bedding (quilts, sheets, pillows etc?). Do you leave them in the van all the time, just for the season or not at all?

We are back to caravanning after a longish break. I remember leaving my pillows in the wardrobe, probably over winter, and they were mouldy when I got to them in the spring!! Beginners error!!

Then we camped for 10 years and lugged everything everywhere every time.

Now we've just got our lovely new to us caravan and I've got mattress toppers, quilts and pillows galore taking over the spare bed. I've got somebody coming to stay and I'm wondering if I can store them in the caravan now or if I need to find a home for them in the house.

I leave that type of stuff in the caravan full time, mainly because if a serious lack of cupboard space in the house. Over the winter I do use a couple of those vacuum storage bags for the likes of towels, sheets etc and never had any problems with mould. The seating and mattress (fixed bed van) obviously doesn't get bagged but just pulled away from the walls, set on end if possible to ensure maximum ventilation around it. Seems to work.

Another thumbs up for the vac storage bags.. really useful for reducing storage, put two pillows in one and they take up the same space as two pillow cases

I use those vacume storage bags for our bedding, takes up far less space and prevents mould etc.

The only other thing I do during the winter period is take the seating and cushions back home and leave them in the spare bedroom. If my van was stored at home I probably wouldn't do this, but my van is at a storage site about half an hours drive away, so prefer them at home.

I use vacuum bags for bed linen, tea towels and towels etc but I dont put pillows, cushions and duvets in them. The one time I did and left them over the winter they came out flattened and never recovered their bounce. Now I just zip them into the plastic bags without vacuuming the air out of them. everything then gets left in the caravan over the winter. never had a problem with damp or mould.

We leave the mattress topper in, and sometimes pillows. But then, i am lucky enough to have it at home with a bit of heat on during the winter. A mate left all his stuff in whilst in storage - in a brand new van. It was mottled with black mould when he got it out in the Spring. And not just the linen, also the bed slats.

We always left everything in...the cushions have been in all winter.

Everything stays in our caravan all year round. When we aren't there we leave the cupboards, lockers, wardrobes etc open to allow for air circulation, and pull the upholstery away from the walls; never had anything go mouldy yet. Well apart from a loaf of bread that I forgot about, but that doesn't count-:)

The longest we don't use our van is from mid January to February half term so generally out every 2 or 3 weeks. Bedding stay on the fixed bed, other bedding under the front seats. Never had a problem with mould or damp feeling bedding.

We leave everything in our van and have never had a problem in 14 years.

Hi, I have always left bedding etc in van over winter BUT I add a couple of these large dehumidifier boxes [with round refills] one on the front locker and one in the toilet seat with door kept open as with cupboard doors
I found they need empting only about once and putting in a refill is easy

We leave bedding on from February to October then take home and store in vacuum bags in loft. Leave cushions on van pulled away from walls and all cupboards open.
