Isn't the tyre pressure on the weight plate by the door? Alternatively the tyresafe.org website has a pressure calculator for caravan tyres.

That pressure calculator is way off for my van.

They say 62 PSI... Where my handbook states 42PSI. So not just a little bit out a LOT out.

Grampian, that tyre size mentioned above doesn't look right to me. Shouldn't there be a load rating and speed rating eg 99L ?

The tyre pressure calculator is way off for my van too. The tyre pressures for my caravan in the official Coachman handbook is 39 psi. and the calculator states 45 psi.
When you consider how many square inches there are in the volume of a tyre, an extra 6 pounds to every SQUARE INCH is a heck of a lot of extra pressure.

Those tyres are described in various places as commercial van tyres with extra heavy duty sidewall construction,so probably the best choice for shaking the van to bits..

Any type of constructed tyres will only shake the van to bits if they are not balanced.

175x13 is the same as 175/80x13 but sometimes when the profiles is missing its a commercial tyre.

It would have a load rating and a speed rating.

I would have thought that with a 175x13 the pressure would have been greater than 39 psi.
My previous 450/2 Coachman had the same size tyres fitted (175x13) on steel rimmed wheels and the pressure in the handbook was 50 psi. The caravan I have now is an identical model but with 14" alloy wheels with tyre size of 195x14 and the pressure in the handbook is 39 psi.
The basis is that the smaller the tyre the less volume there is so the air pressure increases.
It sounds baffling but it is calculated on pounds per square INCH so the bigger the tyre the more volume there is. Although a tractor tyre is huge in comparison it only needs around 15 psi. merely because there are lot more square inches than that of a small tyre.

Googled your tyre and was Loadindex 97/95 N 8 Plyrated.
This means maximum load for single load axle ( 2 tyres on the axle) 730kg AT 65 psi ( standard but can sometimes be AT 69psi) .
N speedrated means max speed 140km/86m/h, so in European system they are called "for trailer use only", and Loadindex is 2 higher then a Q speedrated C-tyre of same sises and AT-pressure.

So tyres specifications I now have, only need MPVW( max permissable vehicle weight) or better real total weight.
And the speed you use and wont go over for even a minute with caravan behind car.
Also comfirm if you have 1 axle 2 tyres under the caravan.

39 psi seems to me low , and the original advice can be given for normal car tyres wich older caravans sometimes have and a 10% extra to that maximum load of tyres AT 10% extra pressure was rule then, gave many tyre problems, and so many swiched to C(omercial) tyres
