As above looking at buying a lightweight 4 berth caravan for less than £1500,nothing fancy just a good solid caravan, not wanting the expense of replacing my Vauxhall Meriva 1.4 with towbar and single elecs so the lighter the better as I think it will struggle on big hills, can anyone offer any advice, thanks in advance.
The first thing you need to consider is how much weight your car can tow. What is the kerb weight? What is the max tow weight? You haven't given the exact details of the car but a quick glance at the car specs suggests that some have a max tow of 750 kg so you wouldn't find many 4 berth caravans available. Let us know the weights and we may have some suggestions for you.

You won't tow a 4 berth with that. Look at Freedom caravans. 750kg max weight which your car could probably tow. You can get them in 3 berth format. Check eBay. Usually old Freedom on there for less than £1500.
Check your handbook, V5 and the weight plate on the car to get the correct figures for your car. Apart from the Freedom caravans mentioned above I can't think of anything that fits your requirements unless you look at something from the 1970's or early 80's when caravans were a lot lighter.
Thanks all, checked out your post Kelser and I can tow 1000kg max, been considering changing my car but would rather not as could be opening a can of worms,I know my car is mechanically sound.
You might be better with a folder or pop top giving a lot less wind resistance. That will be much more towable with a small car than a big box full of air of the same weight.
Looked at all options and to be honest would only get 2 weeks use per year so not really worth all the hassle and potential storage costs, sticking to premier inns with all you can eat breakfasts on real plates for now........
