Hi there never done this before so just bear with me please. We are travelling down to Yorkshire in July with our caravan. We are leaving from Kirkcaldy on the Friday night after work and was wondering if anyone could recommend where to stop overnight halfway that would be safe.
Many thanks

Hi Delzer..I think you will be held up over the forth bridge and around the edinburgh by-pass so you will probably be looking around eyemouth or berwick area to stop.If its a site you want..possibly Dunbar candcc site or if you make it as far as berwick--ord house is close to the A1. Haggerston castle would be your next in line about 10 miles further south. If you are going to risk a lay-by? there are plenty of large ones on the stretch from Dunbar down to the border at Berwick and they shouldnt be too busy with trucks on friday nights
If you get further south than Haggerston it would mean a quite long detour from the A1 to Seahouses or Bamburgh area to find a site and you may be looking at a late arrival time . Hope this helps.

Book into a Caravan and Motorhome club site.. let them know your ETA. If you get there after it's closed you can stay in the late arrivals area. Which is probably what you want anyway.

Thanks Bryan we were thinking of stopping at one of those lorry parks as it would just be for about 4-5 hours. Don't really want to come off main road to much. At least we would have the toilet facilities there. Sorry I should've explained myself better. Or as you suggested we may get a large lay by. Many thanks

Heres a good one for you...Cedar cafe at Grantshouse near Duns TD11 3RP. Set back off the main A1 in a very long lay-by. Great cafe and toilets. Most proper truck-stops will charge you after 2 hours and they arent cheap!

Travel down the A68, there is a Cl site just south of Jedburgh, http://www.bairnkinecottages.co.uk/greenhome_vans.php

Less than 5 mins from A68.
