Help! My caravan brake lights are not working when connected to the car, kia sorento. I've just had the cars towing electrics checked by the garage and all fine and has worked every time we have been away. The strange thing is I hooked up another car to the caravan and the brake lights work on the caravan then I put my car on and nothing. Everything else works I.e lights and indicators.
I had the same issue with my caravan. I think there was a break in the wire somewhere or it was damaged. I ended up taking my lights off drilling a new hole behind the lights and wiring a new wire from the lights down through the back of caravan & out underneath, connecting it to a little multi wire socket underneath.
Couldn’t get to the original wire as the wires all run through the frame of my caravan.
I haven’t had any issues with it since I re-wired it.
It was very easy to do and only took about half an hour to do.
It might just be a bit of dirt on the plug and socket. Id try a good spray of WD40 on bother the plug and the socket. I know WD40 is not perfect but it has helped me out of loads of odd problems.
The fact that the garage say the car is fine and the caravan works with another car makes it seem like a faulty plug and socket so combined they fail.
------------- We camped for years. In 2019 we bought an Elddis Avante 454. We like it as it is short (6.9m) and fits in our driveway and has a fixed bed.
We had 127 nights away in the caravan in 2023.
Open the pins in the car socket GENTLY with a screwdriver. Could be they are not making contact with the plug on the caravan,be careful not to snap them or open too much!
