Hi, has anyone upgraded their Truma Crystal Compact housing to a better system such as the ultraflow system? I say upgrade because I feel the Crystal Compact system with the locking flags is an unreliable insecure system.
I haven't but will follow this thread as I've thought the same. Our current van is an older Adria with the crystal connector. I'm still not sure how you stop it leaking as it always leaks everywhere outside the van until I wiggle it about a few times and eventually it stops.

I've just replaced mine, but I went for a modern version of the Crystal 2 inlet. This was mainly because I did not want to buy a new pump. The job was very straight forward.
By the way the reason for the change was a leaking connection - caused by over tightening the Crystal filter, this in turn, causes a crack in the filter case thread that then leaks.

Ours is the Compact version which doesn't have the filter. It's the little flags on ours which don't hold the "plug" part of the pump in place, causing water to spurt out the sides.
Yes, I had my 2004 Coachman converted from a Crystal Carver 2 housing to a Truma water housing as the connector has two sealing rings instead of one which is much better. However, I requested mine to be changed at the dealer where I bought it from under the proposed deal (at extra cost) which they did along with a new water pump with corresponding connection but the answer you are looking for is, is it any better?
Yes, very much so as on my previous Coachman which had the Crystal Carver housing (with the two securing clamps) I was always getting blow backs from the housing. However, it may not always be down to the housing as if you have the Carver Compact 2 water tank installed it could be related to the non return valve sticking which restricts the flow of water and a common problem apparently on this type of tank. I replaced mine along with a new housing and it all worked satisfactorily afterwards but only changed the caravan for a younger model.
Just to update on my post - I purchased and fitted a Truma Ultraflow Conversion Kit which cost £33.99 + postage from eBay (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/371138763402) and couldn't be more happier with the results.
Fitting it was a doddle, the pack comes with instructions, if required. But for me, it was a simple case of removing the old housing and mastic, then drilling four new 2mm holes, as the spigot at the back of the housing, which connects to the tee was a slightly different height to the old one. Cramp the new connectors to the existing internal wires. Remove the old connector from the submersible pump and replace it with the trigger style ultraflow connector, and that's it. If you're having problems with your Carver Compact, I would definitely recommend converting it to the ultraflow system.
Plus you had to pay for a different water pump with the trigger connection which is around £58 so with the £34 for the housing the total cost would be around £92. The dealer charged me £120 for the lot which included the fitting which is quite good really considering I didn't have to buy any waterproof sealant on top either.
I have to agree though that the Truma Ultraflow system is far better than the Carver/Truma Compact II version.

Sorry, but the trigger connection comes with the conversion kit (as in ebay link), so all that's needed for the pump to work, is to swap the Carver connector on the submersible pump with the ultraflow trigger connection. So it only cost me £33.99 plus postage.
I didn't know you could buy the trigger independently and change it over to the old pump. I thought the pump was a complete unit so you did get a bargain after all.
Same as me graisbeck, I fitted the Ultraflow conversion about 4 years ago it came with the filter but I had to buy a one way valve about £4 or so. I understand they now have a valve built in? Only thingI have had to do was make sure the trigger and housing terminals are clean.

Only a bargain if you're willing to diy it, though!
I have removed my old housing and got the other one fitted but forgot which wire goes where ,it's an abbey Aventura 320 2003 it's got old colour wiring .please help

Difficult to advise without better detail, but quite simple to determine yourself; if wired up wrong, the pump will run in reverse.
Connect up regardless and test; if pump runs and draws water in, then wiring is correct. If pump runs but doesn't draw water, then simply swap the wiring.
