My two year old Swift has developed a fault on the ATC control system LED indicator light on the front fairing. Campbell's. Caravans have told me that this is not covered under warranty because the van has not been serviced as required, (ie within twelve months of purchase) even though the Owner's Handbook states that the ATC control system is maintenance free and requires no servicing. I have been advised that a replacement bulb and bulb holder will cost £68.00 to buy. Surely this must rank as one of the biggest rip off replacement parts ever.

AL-KO makes the rules unfortunately. I have been there with the same part failing in year two, I think.

Ordered it through a local dealer, not where I bought the van, and changed it myself.

Bulb and holder is a sealed unit and a length of wire.

Live without it working?
You know when you couple up if the ATC goes through its "pre-flight-selfcheck".
If it does not there is a fault, the most serious being jammed on which you will "feel" as soon as you move.
What else, in reality, is it telling you as you can't monitor it as you drive along?

They have a poor reliability record, reportedly it is corrosion, a good reason for a hitch cover.

You also know who not to buy your next van from. It's up to them to look after you, their recovering the cost from Swift or Al-Ko is nothing to do with you, just their problem.

Check underneath the connector could have come loose. It did on our Bailey Pegasus.
The wiring was a bit tight causing it to come loose.
I removed a couple of tie wraps, rejoined it and rerouted the cable with new ties.

The bulb went on my 3-year-old Challenger Sport a year ago.
No problem because the whirring start-up as the 'van is connected to the car electrics tells you all is well.

Agree the cost for replacement is a right rip-off, so why bother?

What about after the 'whirring' when the red light is flashing.

Now on my third ATC light - cost £39 to supply and fit so sounds like you are being taken for a ride there.

If you are any good with a soldering iron you can repair for around £1. Bi-coloured LED used for model railway signals, changes from Red to Green when polarity is reversed.

Try Maplin's for the Bi-coloured LED that birdman mentioned.

Have good look under the floor for where the connection to the harness is made, just behind the A frame. I found that this is not a waterproof connector, which given the very exposed location is appalling. I made good the connections, and then arranged to tuck this inside the van out of harms way, something which could easily be done during the build.

If you don't have your caravan serviced yearly will it not invalidate other things in the caravan? Just asking.
