Hi all
Have recently purchased a new caravan (within the past 3 weeks). We noticed a crack has developed at the bottom of the rear plastic panel. We have informed the dealer who has contacted Lunar.
Lunar's response has been that the panel should be repaired. Being an engineer it is obvious that this crack is probably caused by stress and we are worried that the problem will return if it is repaired.
There doesn't appear to be any way of contacting Lunar direct as they say any warranty work has to be authorised via the dealer.
We want the panel replaced as the van is so new.
Does anyone know if we could return it for a refund if they refuse to replace the panel under the sale of goods act?

Thank in advance

If you have taken delivery of caravan less that 30 days ago then you are entitled to refund without question if goods are seriously faulty. After then much more difficult so act quickly.

A crack in a panel might be difficult to prove as "seriously faulty" and the sale of Goods Act is no longer in operation having been replaced by the Consumer Rights Act which gives you similar protection.

You might want to visit this site and have look around for yourself to see if any of the information is pertinent to your case rather than hoping to get a qualified answer from internet lawyers like myself!

I would write to the dealer ( this is who your contract is with rather than Lunar ) and give them 7 days to confirm the panel will be replaced or you will return the van for a full refund.

As above you want a new rear panel, with my Compass the stress crack was at the top, the dealer did know of this problem and fitted a new one.

Shortly after delivery of our brand new caravan we noticed a crack in our front panel. We chose a repair however a couple of months later, another crack appeared which resulted in the front panel being changed and it has been okay since.
Knowing what we now know, we would have rejected the caravan due to the hassle of taking the caravan back and forth each time a 160mile round trip and then being without a caravan for weeks on end.
We certainly would never choose a repair again on a new caravan however it is up to you to decide. If you are going to reject do it in writing and quote Consumer Rights Act 2015 and do this as soon as possible. It will focus the dealer's attention.

A cracked panel on a caravan less than a month old IMHO is a serious fault! Actually under the CRA 2015 a loose knob on a drawer is enough reason to reject a caravan.
