Hi - there's only the two of us now so we are looking to buy a caravan again. We don't want to put a bed up every night so are willing to sacrifice space for this convenience. Does anyone have a recommendation for a small, light, 2/3 berth with fixed bed? Thanks all

French made by Trigano. Caravelair now have a UK distributor Marquis. Look on Marquis website. They do small fixed bed caravans.

Yep thanks Opensauce, those Caravelair caravans are amazingly light.

Just had a look at the Antares 420, which is the same length as the 400, but a little wider by 20cm (8").

Very promising match of 70% on the TowCar.info website for the 2015 VW Golf 1.6 TDi 5 Door Hatch that I drive.

Although for that model of Caravelair, UK prices are about £2k more than in Europe. which on a £10k price tag is quite a premium for buying in the UK.

The Caravelairs sold by Marquis have extra spec water heaters ovens alloy wheels etc. So they have about similar spec the UK built caravans. Those sold abroad have basic spec not even heaters with a list of extra cost options that customer can order to get level of equipment exactly for their requirements.

To compare prices like with like on needs to look on say German or French website & calculate cost of caravan with extras added to UK supplied levels. Even then UK price is probably higher. Best place to buy abroad is probably north Belgium couple of hrs from Calais. Dealers speak English.

If you bought new abroad you would have to enquire if warranty would be honoured in UK. Plenty of secondhand stock abroad though. Not many secondhand in UK. Also consider Sterckeman which are much the same as Caravelair built in same factory.

Yep basic fine for me, after all I am a tent camper.

I could live without a heater, as we would only use the caravan, in the South East of France during July, the 420 is prepped for Air-Con which is interesting.

As for oven, I have noticed the French like to use mini-ovens like the one we have from Lidl, or sometimes they have Combi microwaves which are used outside the van.

My intention would be to buy a 3 year old Antares 420, in the Netherlands, I recon the cost would be around £7k tops.

Then tow the thing down to a campsite in the South East of France, that offers storage.

That would be our holiday home in the sun, on the cheap!

Google for Marktplaats then search Caravans en Kamperen for used caravans in Holland. Also search Super Market Caravanes in northern France only an hour from Calais. They have used & new stock of Caravelair & Sterckeman.

Hi Binzi, I have been looking into this for some time now, and it's still very much work in progress.

I did think that "Caravan King" in Holland would be a good place to buy a used caravan from, certainley there website used to list many competivly priced used caravans, as well as new.

"Caravan King" is or were a Caravelair dealer, but Google now says that they are permanently closed, so I am not sure if they are still in business or not.

Opensauce has listed some contacts which will be worth following up on
Of course the plummeting £ is not a good thing, although I am sure in a couple of years when the UK rules the world, and resurects the British Empire we will be getting 10€ to the £1 and that will be a good time to buy!

Well David it's bound to happen sometime, the main issue is the company car that I drive, being a VW Golf 1.6 TDi 5 Door Hatch, it's not the ideal towcar.

Although the Caravelair Antares 420 does on paper appear to be a better than perfect match.

Although I have no immediate plans to get a caravan, I have two much other stuff going on at the moment.

So will be sticking with the tent for a few more years yet.
