My Avetex Ariel has been fairly ok, you have to make sure that its switchedon in the drop down menus on the Tv screen, and also check out if its connected propperly along the wiring system, as at first, ours was as bad as you say yours is.
I complained to my dealer on our first service and he gave us a full demo and also fixed a faulty connection, and its been fairly decent ever since. Some areas we visit like around Snowdonia, the signal is poor for everyone, and we have to resort to plugging into the sites boosted Tv points on the bollards via a long co-ax extention cable.

We had one fitted to a Compass van, it was useless. Had it checked through at the dealers and all the connections remade - marginally better but we couldn't get a decent signal in places where we previously had no problem with the old 'flying saucer'. External aerial - problem solved. Loads to choose from on eBay/Maplins.
We had an Avtex Aerial on our Alddis. It too was rubbish. I bought a digital aerial from Maplin - It cost us £50. It was superb. Got more channels than any other caravan (Aerial) we have ever had.
it was - Moonraker DTV1000 Outdoor Digital Aerial.
There are cheaper ones but I have no idea what they are like. You will need a 240 volt supply for it though. The plug is a transformer to (I think) 12 volts)
After 2 years of rubbish TV reception and wasting time going back to the supplying dealer and wasting money on gold tipped coax leads and all that nonsense - the answer was simple.
Bought a Status 570 Ariel and had it properly fitted in the roof.
No more problems and it works perfect on over 150 free view channels.
Coachman and Avtec should hang there heads in shame - a £25k caravan and a cheap Ariel that's doesn't work at all.
There are 100s of people out there with the same problem and it won't go away unless you buy a proper Ariel.
Still - mine is sorted now and I have shared the answer with you.
i am same bought a 2015 coachman pastiche (brand new)with the spike aerial sometimes i get a good reception sometimes its crap got in touch with coachman and was told i cant have a directional aerial fitted ,not even by a coachman approved dealer as it will cancel my water ingress warranty because i cant have a hole put in the roof to accomodate it i think its only the 2015 model thats got the spike type fitted
Well I went through all of this with Coachman before I had a hole drilled in my roof to have the status fitted. There is no damp in the caravan now and there will be none caused by the Ariel when fitted properly - after all coachman no doubt used some unskilled seasonal worker to bodge the hole for the Avtec stick.
If my caravan develops damp and it is not connected to the new Ariel then they will need to sort it out - it won't be anymore of a battle than without the Ariel.
What most people don't realise about warranty departments is that they are not there for all your little niggles or even more serious complaints - their role is to only do anything after a long battle and when there is no other choice - they would be fine at sending you a replacement door knob or piece of sticky trim both of which cost them pence but if it was a serious problem they would put up one massive struggle wether you had changed your Ariel or not
I am not going to sit in a £25k caravan and can't watch TV just in case my repair affects the warranty - no chance.
I wish that we could pay like in the TV series " four in a bed " where you pay what you think the service was worth. I can tell you now that no new caravan is worth £25k including mine - I would have paid about £18k
Still that's the way it is and it isn't going to change.
ive got a satellite system but that is the same cant always find the satellite even with a satellite finder ive got an old vision plus aerial thinking about purchasing a bracket to fit on the jockey wheel and a pole
The Status type fitted to our Bailey is good, it goes up and down, rotates and can be set for vertical and horizontal polarisation.
There are free phone apps giving the directions and range to transmitters.

As the OP thought you might be interested in a 2nd update.
We are now in Cornwall at St Ives Bay Area where TV reception is never that good looking by the massive Ariel poles attached to the houses on the way in to our site.
Anyway the Status is just perfect with a great picture quality - just the same as being at home .
The Status has done everything that I wanted it to do and I would never consider a new caravan with a silly little stick Ariel again
I can't believe what we put with for 2 years listening to people giving us the run around - probably why I have never bought from the same dealer twice - but it's sorted now.
I am confused about your ariel.
You seem to be suggesting that you had to drill an additional hole in the roof for the Status ariel.
Could it not just be fitted into the hole already in the roof for the original ariel.
Am I missing something. Was the new ariel in addition to the original?
As well is two words!
