Off to Tudor Glenn, Jameston in Pembrokeshire in August. Travelling from Bradford i think i'm leaning towards A483/A470 route. There is the B4358 from Newbridge on wye that cuts off quite a bit and misses out Builth Wells. Does or has anyone used it towing van or is it a no no! My other thought was navigating around Tenby heading towards Manorbier and Jameston, is this the best way? Is there a better option? Any thoughts and experience of this route or alternatives would be much appreciated.

------------- I went to the top of the mountain...and looked over the other side!
We go down there quite a bit from Halifax, and use the A483 (turning left in Newtown, not using the A470).
The A483 is hilly and twisty in places, but is a pretty stunning drive but not everyones cup of tea - I`ve read comments such as "not suitable for caravans" (but 44 tonne artics don`t have any problems) and "it boiled the transmission fluid on my Shogun(!!!)". I`ve used the A470 but would pick the A483 every time.
I`ve also used the B4358 diversion around Builth Wells, but wouldn`t use it again out of choice, found it very uneven which meant a lot of pitching by the outfit and you had to really knock off the speed.
At the far end, I`d follow the route the CC use for getting to Freshwater East - head for Pembroke Dock them take the Tenby Road. A little less direct but far more caravan friendly and no narrow, single track roads.

As a local.
The A470 route south of Newtown may not be as scenic but it is flatter, quicker and more economical.
Unless you have a very small van don't bother about the B4358. It is narrow, bendy and hilly.
Thanks for the info, probably give the B4358 a miss then. Good call about heading for Pembroke as well, I was going to go around outskirts of Tenby and approach Jameston that way.
Juanhunose...how long does it normally take you? Its just up the road from Manorbier where we're going.

Biggest hold-up in recent years has been in Newtown where some idiot, sorry council engineer, re-sequenced the traffic lights causing a good couple of miles of queues. If he/she has been re-deployed/sacked/shot and the lights sorted you should be OK. Other than that we have never had any significant delays.
I`m a bit `A to B`, so SWMBO gets a `comfort break` if she really needs one, otherwise I just plan to `get there` as quickly as practicable. It`s a good road so you can rattle along with general traffic at 55-60 with few problems if you time it right.
As with most roads today, if you time it wrong you could probably add an hour on, or more if you choose to stop.
Think i'll get set off early doors (wednesday) and get past manchester before the madness. We usually have to stop for the loo, 3 of us all at different times though...sigh, one day we'll get it coordinated...lol!
