So my van goes in for a service as it hasn't moved for nearly 2 years due to circumstances I wish hadn't happened.
Anyway Jan this year we had a long family chat about the van does it stay or does it go. It stayed on the basis we definately went away this year. So a 12 night holiday up north of Scotland was duly booked. So we decide to get the van serviced just to make sure the gas and electric, brakes etc were still in perfect working order.
Disaster. Gas regulator needs replaced, the battery has had it, the water heater element is tripping the electric, the water return valve literally fell out and worst of all 2 small patches of damp on the floor have been found. So yes all needs doing before July 22nd. Total cost - £1084. I could have cried but in a strange way I'm happy it's been found now as it's relatively easy for them to sort the damp and coat the whole base and the fact we could have been onsite with no water gas or leccy.
So the work has started, split into 2 parts, the non damp work is getting done this week and the damp repair will be completed the day before we leave so as to break up the bill over 2 months. It's absolutely not a perfect way to prepare but it is our fault for leaving the van for so long unmoved and once the work is done the van will be like new again. So all in all if you take the 4 years we've owned it and the time we'll have it after it'll work out at probably just over £100 a year to maintain so not a total disaster lol
------------- Who needs travel agents,we have our static
our 2005 bailey champaign cost us an average of £800 a year on damp repairs alone when we include the insurance /servicing & general repair costs i was cheaper to get rid of it after 7 years. we bought a motorhome & toured for 3years & thougherly enjoyed it .we now do not have a M/H or caravan as I just cannot justify the excessive costs involved < but must admit we do miss it all , package tours ,rent a tent holidays ect do not quite give the same satisfaction
That's not too bad think how much it would cost to fly somewhere for a holiday and you will be able to go again .
Make the most of it . It will be worth it .
Good luck have a good time
