Hi there folks, I,m after some advice regarding lighting our fridge, the van is Bailey Valencia 2014 and we have never had the need to use the fridge on gas, however we will be in France in August and on the way out we will have one night with no 240 power. But I,m having difficulty lighting the gas fridge this is what I have done so far,
Gas bottle on
main gas tap under cooker valve open
fridge control set to gas.
press and hold temp control
strike ignition repeatedly
nothing is happening

Any idea what I,m doing wrong

check outside at fridge vents and see if top vent is hotter than bottom,after u try to light it, maybe lit and u are not aware

Not too familiar with this van, but only other opinion I could offer, is whether you have the 12v master switch turned on, as the ignition is probably reliant on this for supply.

Have you got a leisure battery connected up?
If not then this is the likely cause as the gas needs a source of ignition to light the flame.
People use mains electricty on site and never buy a battery thinking they never need one but that's not always the case if you need to use gas appliances.
There could be other issues at fault such as air in the system. If so then light the gas rings on the cooker first to assist get the gas to flow and expell any air in the pipes. It could even a blocked jet (especially if it's never been used on gas) which was the cause of mine not lighting recently. However, it took a service engineer to detect the fault on mine which you may need to do if all the above fails.

As other have mentioned make sure ignition is powered from battery. Mine doesn't always light straight away. Possibly the air in the pipes- I will light the hobs first next time as suggested.
Mine has two dials, one for how much gas 1-8 I think. Then the gas dial.

Not knowing the exact fridge but try this.

Switch the gas on the fridge to maximum i.e. The coldest setting on the fridge normally all the way clockwise
You say you strike the ignition repeatably. If it's and electronic ignition then just press and hold down the button you should hear it clicking as it sparks.
Then press and hold the gas control down. I find it is much better to start the igniter first, because other wise you may get too much gas and not enough air it won't light.
There should be an indicator showing when the gas is alight. Older fridges have a little window you could see the flame. More recently have a little indicator near the other controls that moves into the green zone.
When you think it has lit continue to hold the gas control down for 20 seconds or so. Remember it might take a couple of hours for it to get cold.

Caravan needs to be level for fridge to light off gas. We often run our fridge on gas and it always takes several attempts to light it.

This. You need to hold in the gas knob for a long time, especially if it's not been used in a while. I sometimes have to keep the gas knob pressed for over a minute. This is so that the thermo-coupler warms up enough to keep the gas feed to the fridge open. You should see a little blue gas flame towards the very back of the little window if you have one. This is probably at floor level, so be prepared to spend some time lying on the floor and cursing/cajoling alternatively!

The other thing is that it could be an airlock somewhere in the system.

I had a similar problem with my heating, never needed it to run on gas for a couple of years, then on a site with no electrics it was needed but wouldn't work. Took it back to the dealer and they found it was just a bad airlock.

I've had this problem a few times when trying to run the fridge on gas , as mentioned earlier there's a good chance it's something obstructing the jet.
Here's what worked for me .. take a can of compressed air, think it's called "dust off" from the outside of the van take the lower grill off and give the area where the burner is a good blast on my fridge you can push the small tube through a gap in the shield. I also give it a blast down the flue.
Works for me and worth a try..

Yes ours always takes ages to light at the beginning of the season, just when I'm starting to be concerned I hear it whoof :)
