TJ here from Ireland. Just picked up a 450/5 challenger for my first caravan. In pretty good shape. Just looking for some advice.
1)does this van have an in built water tank or do I need to run the water from a independent drum outside the van?
I can't seem to attach a link or picture to find out what pump I need judging by my connection externally.
Someone will correct me but I think you have to run from barrel via pump. There must be a water tank though for the hot water. Not sure on fitting sorry
Mine has an external pump which plugs in the side of the van near the water heater. It then dangles in an aquaroll. Google whale water pump ep1612 it looks like that.
Assuming that this is an early 90s Swift Challenger the answer to your question is yes and yes.
You will need an external barrel (Aquaroll or similar) as your water supply to the caravan, pumped by a submersible pump. This will supply your cold water directly to the cold taps and fill your onboard hot water tank, which is probably located in your front offside locker. To fill the tank turn one of your hot water taps on and wait while it fills the tank until water starts to flow smoothly out of the hot tap. The tank can be heated by electric (illuminated switch) or gas.
If the water heater is a Carver, the pump you will probably need is a Whale EP1322 or EP1622 (same connection but different pressures), but take a photo of the caravan connection and any dealer should be able to recognise the correct pump.

So an ep1622 should do the job then?
Isnt that a Whale pump? No idea if they are the same fitting but the housing is the same as the one on my previous van and that was a Truma Crystal. You would be better taking your photo to a decent caravan accessories shop to make sure you buy the correct pump as they are not cheap.
If your going to sterilise the system, remove the old filter and take the insides out. Refit the empty cartridge and run the sterilising solution through the pipes and heating leaving it to sit for the correct amount of time 1/2 to 1 hour usually. Then flush the pipes and heater out.

Yes, the Whale EP1622 will fit the Truma Crystal 2 water inlet as shown in the photo. I recently sold one on Ebay as the the fitting on my latest caravan is a Truma Ultraflow which has a different design inlet connection.
