Hello All
We are picking up our first caravan next week. We are moving over from a motorhome so we are familiar with the pastime.
Now, although loading in a motorhome is a consideration, I am aware that it is far more critical in a caravan. To that end I am having some towing training soon, and I have spent hours on youtube researching the subject. What I was wondering though, is what about the day we pick the caravan up. We have been told to expect a two hour handover, but should I take some items to add a bit of weight to the nose for the journey back home. I was thinking of taking the gas bottles with me. The journey home is only about 6 miles on A and B roads.
Cheers

No there will be enough nose weight. Most vans have problems getting it low enough. Do you know the nose weight limit of your car?

By all means take things with you then they can help you fit them and make sure it all works properly.

Have you got your tow bar fitted OK and with the correct electric socket to match the plug on the van. Will also need towing mirrors.

Towing mirrors..

If its only 6 miles then you will be OK as it stands.

2 hour handover? I was in and out within 20 minutes.

Ha Ha. I wish post 1997 licence holder! 1976, test taken in Germany in a Landrover.
The nose weight of the car is 70kg. We have had to change the car as ours won't quite tow a quazar462 safely. We have a Mitsubishi ASX petrol. We have found a diesel version that has a higher kirb weight, and has a higher maximum towing weight. I have done the 85% calculation and it is well in.
The new car is already fitted with a tow bar that will tow up to its maximum towing weight. It is booked into the original tow bars fitters to have the loom changed to 13 pin, and the tow ball changed to take an Alco stabilizer.
All and all we will have spent a few Bob to get this caravan on the road. But even with the cost of a one year old caravan, changing our, car, and equipping the caravan with anti theft devices, and sundries. We still have a few k left from the cash back that we received when they took our Motor home off us.
Thanks all for the tips
