Hi just about to buy our first caravan (been camping etc for years) and wonder which is the best club to join - Caravan and Motorhome or Camping and Caravanning club.
Any thoughts?
Thanks
As well is two words!
How does a sage know everything about everything? or does he? or does he just think he does?

If you do a forum search you will find loads of discussion on the subject of which club to join. We belong to both clubs and they both have things for and against them.
Having belonged to both clubs,we decided to just stay with one off them.We decided on staying with the C&CC as it met our needs better with the location of sites and worked out cheaper as now been retired 19 years. As you are an ex camper it think you will find the C&CC more suited to you.
I'm in the Caravan club (now Motorhome and Caravan Club) and to be fair, I only use the sites as stop offs to other sites (for example Trevornick and Cornwall)
Depending on how much time you have to use the caravan it might well be worth joining both. The CMC has more sites but we often find ourselves using C&CC ones (obviously members of both!)
I think its difficult to recommend one of the two clubs. As previous threads have shown on this subject, we all look for different things in a site.
I think the best thing is to have a few nights on both club sites and see if its what you are looking for.
I have been a member of both clubs but now just the Caravan and Motorhome club.
My reasons are that they have sites in our favourite areas and the standards are high in our experience over 40+ years.
Site fees seem to be similar although there seems to be complaints from members of both clubs about recent increases on previous threads.
I pay £48 per annum membership fees, which is less than £1 per month. Not sure what the CCC fees are.
The nightly pitch fees can vary with both clubs and yes there are non club sites that are cheaper but also ones that are a lot more expensive.
Its really down to what you prefer.
You can stay on both club sites without being a member but it is more expensive as a non member.
I would say give both clubs a go and then chose both, one or neither.
------------- It is a wise man who has something to say.
It is a fool who has to say something.
It's not just the site fees, it's insurances, channel crossings etc to take into account. I think they're actually worth nearly £100 a year, but you do needtomake use of what they offer.
The CAMC gives you discounts on the M6 toll and suchlike.
We're members of both. CCC with the age concession works out very reasonable per night but the CAMC sites are generally slightly more upmarket and often closer to towns.

No right or wrong answer I feel. It is simply a matter of personal preference really. We are members of the C&CC and have been happy with our membership. We visited a great C&CC CS in Manorbier, South Wales last month, which was lovely, then we had a weekend at C&CC Sandringham, which was also great. We spent 2 weeks at Sandringham last year. Can't speak of CC sites as we have never used one, but I can't see how they can be any better than the C&CC sites that we have used. Our senior citizens' discount with C&CC comes in handy too!
I like the caravan club because of their Cl sites and the Mayday breakdown service, if the C&CC had Mayday I'd go with them as they also have very nice CS sites

A lot of CAMC sites are in nicer surroundings with trees etc. Most of the CCC sites - and I've been to quite a lot over the years - are more bland. Facilities-wise there's not much to choose between them. I've also found the CAMC are often closer to towns whereas CCC can be quite some way - for instance Bala CCC is about 3 miles from Bala and not on a bus route. Windermere is the same.
It's all down to personal preference and I know a lot of people would say they go camping to get away but, to my mind, if you're just going to sit on a campsite all day you might just as well save your money and sit in the back garden. I like somewhere to go when I away.
