I had been looking at an old caravan but when the caravan engineer went to check it out it was really damp. Readings of around 70 on 2 walls. I'm thinking of getting a damp meter myself so I can check this on any other vans I look at before calling the engineer to check them. It may sound like a daft question but I've never used one before. Should I be looking for a reading of 0 or would there normally be a low reading (thinking moisture in the air ect). If there would be a low reading what is an acceptable level.

Thank you. Next question I didn't realise not all damp meters give actual readings. Can anyone recommend a meter, preferably as cheap as possible as its all eating into my caravan fund but at the same time I'd rather pay out a small amount now than buy a heap of trouble

amazon will give you loads like this meter for all around the £15 ball park figure:https://www.amazon.co.uk/Brennenstuhl-1298680-Moisture-Detector-MD/dp/B003CSNV2Q/r........

Unless you spend hundreds of pounds, you wont get an engineers calibrated meter accurate with in millionth of a degree, but you will get a meter that will give you a good idea of what is going on. I spent about £12 on mine and glad I did, it found my damp before it completely rotted the timber away
