I get bleeps from my alarm system in my caravan. Sargent informs me that it's indicating the low unit battery state. The caravan is only two years old and a replacement battery will cost over £40. I'm not bothered about having a burglar alarm. If I remove the battery would it stop the infernal bleeping and would it damage the unit long term? I'm getting a bit fed up with these high tech caravans!

Caravan storage have a few beeping away happily.

Removing the battery wont do any damage, better than leaving a battery that may leak over time.

If it's the 300 model, then you can't just remove the battery as it takes its charge from the leisure battery, so will just take its power from that instead, and I don't think it's set up to cope with that, else it wouldn't be giving you the warning beeps now

You have 2 options, either disconnect the alarm totally, or get a battery.
As Kenles says, you can get from net, but you are going to need to match the Ah, type and size and make sure you have sorted the correct connector on it.

Thanks for the info. I found that the unit can be disconnected by unclipping connectors beside control box after removing battery. As the caravan is stored on a site and not adjacent to my house, the alarm isn't worth having anyway. Removing the alarm has the added benefit of getting rid of yet another bright standby light which light my caravan up like a Christmas tree at night!

The control box has a switch inside where you can turn the alarm off without disconnecting anything.

The battery costs a lot more than a tenner - its not the old Yuasa type - and is usuallay least £30+.

Its beeping because its low on charge either because the leisure battery is removed or is itself flat.

Would the alarm work without internal battery fitted , or if battery is not charging would the alarm stop working properly, thanks

The Sargeant alarms are reliant on the internal battery, these run the alarm but the system keeps the internal battery charged from the caravans leisure battery. If you remove the internal alarm battery, the system will not function, as confirmed by Sargeant themselves.
