Hi everyone, just bought our first caravan a Swift challenger 450/5SE 1990s. I've done most of the work needed to get her up to scratch but need any advice as a newbie really .!!
Can I change fridge to just a normal indoor fridge once connected to site hook up.?
Best insurance for older caravans.?
Also will be towing with a auto motability car.

Fridge is normally on 12 volt from the car when towing.
Then on site it can be 240volt mains or gas.

Have you asked Motability about fitting a tow bar?
Have you checked that the car can tow your caravan safely?
Is your licence correct to drive that outfit?

You can fit a household fridge but dont forget it will need 8 hours+ to settle before you can plug it in.

Fridges designed for caravans are totally different to household units.

If you plug a household fridge in after bouncing it around on the journey it wont like being plugged in straight away.

I know, I delivered one and they plugged it in straight away and i had to take them another one. Made some funny noises for an hour or so and then died totally.

Accepting the above limitations, a domestic fridge will work fine. Many French sites provide ordinary fridges for hire, and very few have the typical 16 amp UK supply.

I've had three Motability cars with a towbar - give them a ring its always been a formality for me.

Regarding insurance, I have my 1992 Elddis insured with ClubCare from the Camping and Caravan Club. Renewal in June was about £73. I had a 1988 caravan before that and they insured that too.

One further point about a domestic fridge. It will keep you awake all night. The fridges fitted in caravans work are totally silent.
