Welcome to the forum doughnuts. If you Google Cassoa you'll be able to find secure sites that should please your insurance company, you should be able to get some idea of pricing but you may struggle to get a space at this time of the year.

27 to 30ft is extremely long for a caravan, what are you thinking of buying?

Rob

PS I've just seen your other post. There are lots of threads on here about buying a first caravan and what to look out for, use the search facility and you should find some good advice, you'll see that damp is a big problem in caravans.

First thing to consider is what your car can tow and what your licence allows you to tow, again there is lots of advice on here and the towcar forum.

Find storage first, there are waiting lists near me which can be over 6 months long. And often there are no spaces free.

Otherwise you may end up buying a van and not having anywhere to store it.

My storage is not listed on any site, only found it by word of mouith and struck lucky that someone was giving up their spot.

When you find storage, get it agreed with your caravan insurance provider, with mine, I have to have a wheel clamp and hitch lock fitted which does effect the policy price.

I think its more a case of CASSOA storage sites receiving a discount from the insurance companies than declining insurance. However the insurance companies will usually ask for security measures hitchlock, wheelclamp, alarm and if the precautions aren't in place the insurance may be invalidated. There have been instances of some storage sites requesting no hitchlocks or clamps because they may want to move the unit in case of fire this however would invalidate the insurance.
The fitting of a motor mover is down to personal preference. Your husband is an experienced tower and won't have a problem. I have my caravan on my drive with wheelclamp, hitchlock and chassis chain and park the wrong way round with my car in front of the van but my drive is steep and I have inches to contend with so yes I do use one and it makes me lazy when I arrive on site.

Some storage sites do not allow wheelclamps in case they need to move the vans in an emergency.

So conflicts between storage and insurance requirements.

Do you leave the clamp off and risk the insurance not paying out or upset the storage owner by fitting a clamp?

Just because a site is Gold or Silver doesnt really show how secure it is.

An old storage site i used was Gold rated, yet had a public pathway at the back and gaps in the hedges.

Anyone on the footpath could walk around the storage.

Do you plan to do lots of UK hols/breaks?

We only use ours on the continent ... and store it there ... saves a lot on towing/ferries ...

We have an indoor, secure, modern storage for 185 euros a year.
