Recently bought a new Elddis Mistral with the whale water system. Been out several times in the van and bought the new 51Ltr water butt. However, can anyone say weather the direct water feed (from tap to van) hoses are any good?
Obviously cannot be used on all sites, but whenever were on a full service pitch i was wondering if these things cause more problems than if not used, ie water pressures etc.

The safest way is to have a float valve in the aquaroll. This way reduces the chance of the caravan flooding if a fault with pressure regulator occurs, forcing a pipe off. With the float way you will only ever get pressure higher than the pump produces.

Agree with Birdman. While there are pro's and cons with both, I believe the float system to be the safer option. I have met two families who have experienced flooding with the direct fitting, where an internal pipe has come adrift. Obviously this shouldn't happen, but it does with dire consequences.
At least with the float valve, once at pressure your caravan pump will turn off and should the float valve fail, then any leak will be outside the van.
I agree also about the direct feed systems, but it has to be said that even with the float systems I assume that the same flooding could occur. It is less likely due to the low pressure produced by the 12v pump
If the van has a leak internally, then surely the pressure will drop and the pump will kick in just the same as switching on a tap, or am I missing something?.
The safest way is to have neither system, then the most you can flood the van with is the contents of the barrel.
I use the float system and always switch the pump off at the control box when not being used, do other members not do so ? Safe from any flooding issues
Thanks for that peeps. Ever since my brother in law had a real bad leek due to a pipe separating i have always switched off the pump when not in use. I'll look into the float variety as it makes more sense tbh than the direct feed.
Thanks again.

I looked at getting one of the "premium pitch" water systems, and like you said it was a choice between direct feed from the tap to the caravan, or the float valve type.
After finding out the price difference was about £40 (float valve type costs about £15 and the direct feed about £55) I quickly decided on the float valve type.
We use the direct feed when on a 'super' pitch and never have had any problems. I always ask the other people using direct feed systems if they have ever encountered problems, and not one ever reported an issue.
