Hello everyone - I am looking to buy an awning for my caravan, only a porch awning and I am getting a little confused by the awning height.
I have a KIP Greyline, with a sloping roof at the front, however the awning rail height is 230 at the highest point, where the awning would be by the door. Most porch awning say suitable for 235-250. Would this fit my caravan?
You need the caravan to be high so the awning roof slopes down away form the van to let rain run off. If it does not run off it can collect in a pool which weighs the awning roof down a bit allowing the pool to get bigger. You end up with the roof almost touching the ground.
Then the awning roof needs to allow the door to open without hitting it.
You need to find a style of awning which can cope with this.
Ideally the awning should also avoid crossing windows if possible and allow you to open any hatches such as toilet cassette etc.

You can gain extra a little height by pulling the caravan up on a pair of ramps but your main concern is how wide the porch awning is and where about the sloping roof begins from the back. If the measurement along the awning rail is less than the awning width then you will get slack at the front end and find it impossible to peg out securely which slack material will create roof pooling at the front end of the awning.
My vans not quite as tall as some others, i just use a single strip of wood under the wheel on the awning side to git it that slight lift, Thats enough for the awning to fit perfectly.
Dont forget that each pitch will vary slightly,
So you 235-250 awning may need that side raising to get a good fit and allow the water to run off properly without sagging.
