Can anybody recommend a caravan training course for towing and basics. I've had a big trailer for years but never towed a van, would like to train up.

The day and a half course offered by the caravan and Motorhome club was good for this. It had laws/theory as well as practical hitching and towing etc. I found it really useful.

If you have plenty of experience towing a large trailer then you know how to hitch up & are used to towing. So do you really need to go to trouble & expense of a towing course? Only difference with caravan is less rear vision. You need towing mirrors on car & so on.
Everything else is just common sense. Main mistake particularly by drivers of high powered towcars is to drive as if they are not towing, pulling out in middle lane of motorway with speed creeping up over 70 etc. You have to be disiplined & watch speed. You need to be aware of tail swing out of your sight when turning & so on. If you know all that from towing a trailer then you don't need further instruction.

Your right that he probably doesn't need to go on a towing course, but just remember that you don't just learn how to tow on these courses.
You also learn correct weight distribution which is a must for any new caravan owner.
Also perhaps the OP just wanted to go onto the course to increase their confidence.
