Hi, having been out several times now in the van, we still are not able to get any signal for our tv. The built in aerial (mushroom shaped ) on roof has a booster and is switched on from inside cupboard where the light comes on. Having wondered if this may be faulty, we purchased an indoor aerial and tried it at home in kitchen with the tv from Van. It worked perfect. Took both back to van and went off to different campsite and still getting no signal. We are auto tuning it to digital and the tv has built in free view.
Got a 'stick' type aerial on our van, sometimes get a very good signal, other times it is poor, so just use a sat. dish to get a perfect picture. Avtex DRS TV's (other brands available) have both freeview and free to air receivers built in.
had the same problem with ours. Turned out to be an incorrectly installed coaxe cable on the out side of the booster. the core wire was bent and not entering the socket. tv works really well on the vans standard ariel now. I use a tv signal strength meter to set up. takes seconds.
regards
------------- No matter where you go....there you are
mushroom aerials are useless.a directional one on a pole will work.dont forget polarity, flat or vertical?also,i have a meter that detects for satellite and freeview,so you can pinpoint the signal strength with a series of lights.necessary for digital.
This is a useful read. I got their DM Log one. Don’t have a booster and it generally works well. I have an app on my phone that shows nearest transmitter and whether horizontal or vertical and its general direction or I look at any nearby houses (or other caravans). http://www.aerialsandtv.com/touringaerials.html
