Hi, does anyone know if there is such a thing as some kind of clip that can go in awning rail to attach the round clips from a sail shade. I have one of these spare and have seen poles for them but wondered if there was a way to attach to caravan. The sail is really lightweight. Thanks
Hi shaggy 2000, I'm not sure what you mean. The sail is ready made with 6 round clips, 3 on each end already attached. I need something to go on awning rail that these round clips can be attached to thanks.
The answer would probably be no. Not something that would stand the slightest bit of wind anyway. If you want to attach a canopy that has no awning beading thren you would need put part of canopy over the roof with guylines tied to eyelets on canopy with guylines going over caravan roof & pegged into ground the other side.
The alternative might be to buy a length of awning rail beading & have it sewn onto one edge of canopy.
Could you use awning piping to slide into your awning rail put eyelets into the section that is not in the awning rail and put carabiners through these eyelets that could attach to your sail clips?
I think I would only use the sail if it was a simple clip on to something, otherwise I'd go for a roll out. Seemed a good idea to start, but anything that's not easy to put up is no good for us as hubby has no patience for awnings etc. Maybe I'll just get a concertina gazebo instead. Thanks for replies.
Have a look at sail slugs. A sail attaches to the mast and boom either with a bolt rope or sail slugs or a combination.
The slugs may just slide into the awning channel as it is about the same size as the groove in dinghy masts and booms.
Failing that you could use a short length of rope or awning bead, say a couple of inches long and tie a high tech line to it in a loop such as dyneema as sold in chandlerys and climbing outlets. Or sew in a piece of tape in a loop.
just bought 2 awning rail stops on e bay you could replace the bolts with eye bolts and once fitted can be left in place 3£ for 1 set 6£ for 3 sets

Obelink do a simple sun canopy, with awning bead down one edge, and three eyelets - and a pole set with guys to moor it with. Only takes a few minutes to set up; in a range of sizes.
The obelink looks like a really simple cheap solution, i take it the thickness of the canvas/awning rail are the same on all caravans? I do think it may be worth me looking at the slugs and also the rail stops first I'm overwhelmed with the help and replies thankyou all
We used the Obelink when we had the caravan. A good solution as a sun shade, and despite looking flimsy, stood up to some strongish winds. Beware, it pools badly when raining, and the weight of water collapses it.
