Is it Ok to keep the fridge on all the time or are they only meant for semi-short term/ Holiday use?

Unless you want to use it while at home there is no real point it just wastes your electricity, but it wont come to any harm leaving it on if you want to.
One thing I was told by a caravan service engineer is to fire it up on gas once in a while as spiders tend to lodge in the jet and can stop it from lighting.

We do use it as an overflow fridge (3 very hungry teenagers) especially at Christmas etc
but i'll just have remember to turn it off when not using
was worried about the element really

I had to replace the 240v element recently on our 2012 swift, I bumped into a caravan engineer and asked him about it as our old van was 12 year old (an Electrolux fridge) with no problems and he said they seem to last longer if used more!!
I know that car air conditioning needs to be used occasionally in winter to keep all the refrigerant seals moist which stops leaks. Maybe the same is true of caravan fridges.
Must admit we switch ours off when we get home; empty it out and leave the door ajar to stop it going mouldy.
