2018 may well be the end of our caravanning life. For now at least anyway. Daughter is approaching 15 and has stated she doesn't want to go anymore and my oldest isn't too keen either but hasn't said as much. And for us there is no pleasure going in the van without our youngest son anyway but we did it for the other 3.

But the real killer is our big towing machine is falling apart. We know it won't pass it's mot and we can't afford to replace it. So it makes sense for us to cash in on the van and let mother famiky get the use out of it is what we are thinking.
Maybe once all the kids have flown the nest we can get a wee 2 berth and start again. No final decision has been taken yet but it certainly isn't looking promising

We went through a similar phase in our Caravan Career, once our youngest two girls got to be teenagers they stated that they did not wish to 'Share a bedroom with Dad anymore'.

We sold our Coachman Genius 460/4 and went on to explore the package holiday scene, but missed our Caravan greatly and even bought an Out well Winfield tent which we enjoyed for short breaks taking our then young Grandchildren with us, and they loved it.

Fast forward to 2009, My husband retired, got a good 'Golden Handshake' after 50 years in the building trade, and a couple of months later we became the proud owners of a Lunar Zenith 4 Berth Caravan, which we kept until we traded up the Avante we have today.

I think that once you catch the Caravanning bug it stays with you for life, in our case as long as we can physically manage to hitch up and go, which with the help of a wonderful motormover we hope will be for a few more seasons yet!

Julia

We have now caravanned without a break for 45 years running. Started off with our children, and then in their teens they had tent at side of caravan. Then boyfriends and girlfriends came along. Then when they had children bought their own caravans, but still came to most places with us. Then it was just us and the grandchildren in our caravan. Now grandchildren are in their 20s we are on our own. Hope to still have more years yet.

We have used the caravan for weekend breaks for my daughter and grandchildren since the birth of our first grandchild in 2006 and take them on their annual fortnight holidays to France every year. Our eldest grandchild is now 11 and I can see that the weekends may disappear first, but at the moment I'm sure that the longer holidays will still be wanted for at least a few more years, as long as they want. Its not easy with the grandchildren but very enjoyable and we all have many very happy memories. My wife and I use the caravan mid week for breaks on our own which we also greatly enjoy. Using the caravan with and without the family is just a wonderful experience for us. I really hope that you can carry on caravanning and any problems with the towcar are resolved, cheaply.

I can understand why you feel it's time to give up for a while fife-bloke. In years to come you may feel like starting again.
I often think about you and your family and wonder how you are getting on especially at this time of year.

Aww thanks path. Xmas was difficult and a bit emotional if the truth be told but a brave face and a bit of determination to make it a good a day as possible for the rest of the family got us through. X

Our daughter stopped coming with us ... for a year ...
at twenty one she still comes for a couple of weeks each year ... why wouldn't she? ... a free holiday in exotic climes? ... it's a no-brainer!

Yes our two are the same, my daughter often asks if we can pick her up from Leeds on the way, she lives on the A64, thought we would have got rid of them by now.
