Hi does anyone have a bailey ranger 460/2 that could please look in the service handbook for the correct tyre pressures for 185 65 R 14 6PR ? We bought the van last weekend but the service handbook was missing.
The tyres have been uprated, so the 39psi it states on the van plate isn't relevant to these tyres.

If the tyres have been uprated from the standard spec I doubt if the pressures for the uprated tyres will be listed in the handbook.

We had a Bailey Ranger 460/4 with 185/65 R14 L1 93N tyres but at the moment I can't find what pressures we used, I think we used the pressures on the plate on the van. I did find an online tyre pressure guide but it has to be used carefully as some tyre and weight options state very odd pressure requirements, I'll see if I can find find it again as it may give you an idea of the correct pressures.

Just found it. Look at the tyresafe.org website, go to the caravan tyre pressure calculator page and input the weight of the caravan and tyre size. I just checked it against the Swift recommendation for our caravan and it gives a pressure 2psi higher than Swift so it will give you a good starting point.

fitting an uprated tyre of the same size wont alter the required tyre pressures..

it just means that the tyre could carry more weight and run at a higher pressure if needed.. being as none of this applies the pressures would remain the same..

Thanks guys, I got a reply back from Bailys saying that the tyre pressures would be 39psi as stated on the plate on the van, interesting though that the Tyresafe calculator states that the tyre pressure should be 52psi !
Must admit the tyres at 39psi do look a little under inflated.

Many caravans have tyres fitted from new which are quite marginal on load rating. For example my 900kg caravan has indicated in handbook that tyre size is 165/80 R13 which is a car tyre that has load rating of 83 or less which is marginal so I fitted same size but 165/80 R13C which is commercial van tyre with much higher load rating.

Max pressure as indicated on sidewall for car tyre of my size is usually only about 42psi so caravan handbook requires pressure of 35psi which imo is a bit low for weight of caravan but cannot be greater to allow margin below max pressure allowed for tyre.

The van tyres I have on now allow max pressure of over 60psi so I run the tyres at 45psi as indicated on pressure chart you are using.

So provided your tyres allow 52psi well within their pressure limit which if van tyres will be over 60psi max then 52psi will be ok for you. One could point out that the very basic suspension system of a caravan makes softer tyre pressure desirable to give caravan a softer ride but one must balance that with higher tyre pressures allow tyres to run cooler which imo is better from a safety pov.

nothing is to gained by running higher tyre pressures than you need to be running..

all it will do is help the pot holes shake your van to bits a little sooner..

My tyres max is 55psi "cold" so if i went to 52psi i think that would be too close to the max, so to be safe i am gonna stick to 42psi which is only 3 psi over the handbook, and like you say, that way the van stays intact a little longer.

good thinking i run mine at around 42 psi..

my tyres are max pressure 65 psi.. max speed 90 mph and max weigh about %50 more than what my van puts on them.. my tyres have a very easy life..and my crude suspension get all the help it can get..
