Coming round to thinking of having one fitted as it will make moving easier. We’re not old but I’ve had problems with frozen shoulder and
OH, his knees! When our eldest came with us , it was okay but now it’s just us and our 12 yr old. Sometimes it’s a bit tricky.
OH said if, for any reason, he was hurt, we’d struggle (happened once when he’d fallen off a Segway!) We both admitted that sometimes we worry about getting off pitch. Shouldn’t be like that so we’ve decided to take the plunge . Have looked at previous posts but most recent one was 2014.
So looking for recommendations for reasonably priced mover for single axle van.
I’ve had 3 caravans each with a different make of mover. They all did the job of moving the van equally well and none failed to operate during our ownershipl. Powrtouch, purpleline and Reich.
There's plenty of choice, just google motor movers then look at the specifications of each and see how they met your requirements. Check the forums for feedback on the various types, I use powrtouch, probably not the cheapest but I've had very few problems and on the odd occasion I've contacted them they gave good technical advice. Don't forget the extra weight will reduce your payload. Good Luck.
In terms of reliabilty and excellent customer service then Powrtouch is probably the best make to consider but not the cheapest. However, they do two versions which is the manual roller engagement (by use of a detachable lever) or the automatic engagement which means that there is no physical pushing or pulling to do but obviously costs more.
Someone on this forum a few months ago who had a Powrtouch mover installed said that their 5 year warranty had expired by just a few days and after experiencing problems with their motor mover they still came out and assisted them free of charge. It doesn't get any better than that!
We are happy with our current Powrtouch mover but we haven't had it very long so can't really comment on longevity! The only thing I am not keen on is that there is some sort of bar that connects both sides of the mover and you are supposed to be able to engage both sides at the same time. However, I am a very small lady and don't have the strength to do this. On our previous mover you could engage each side separately which needed less strength. This is not a problem as long as OH is with me but might prove difficult if I go away without him.
Our previous mover was a Rhyno and it worked well too and we had very good customer service from them when someone nicked a part from it. They sent us a replacement part in the post the next day with instructions on how to fit it (very easy) and they didn't charge us a penny.
Thats what I like about the mover we have you just wind the crank to engage the rollers... you can even use the drill after winding the steadies if it has enough torque.
I agree the powrtouch with the powrbar can be hard to engage. After years of good service (my drive is narrow and very steep) the gearbox on the motor failed a couple of year ago. I bought a new one from powrtouch but selected one that self actuates. No wrench or drill required for that model but it is a bit dearer.
Thanks for your comments. Have potentially been offered a manual powrtouch, the one with a bar. Just wondering if it would be okay/easy for a 5.5ft moderately strong person i.e me?

It should be okay if you have no restrictions at the side of the caravan such as a brick wall or garage etc. to access the mover. Is it the type where the bar connects on either side to engage the rollers independently or just the one connection that connects both rollers simultaneously?
