Our cordless drill has just packed in after many years. We use it for DIY around the house and are thinking of using it for pegging out the awning on hardstanding pitches. I have been looking on screwfix and the choice seems vast with different volts etc.
Can anyone recommend a cordless drill that would be useful for the caravan but also for home DIY. We don't want to go too expensive so under £100 but want something with proven reliability.
Many thanks
------------- Pixie

Depends on the type of DIY and how often, if its general house DIY I had a 1.3ah cordless Dewalt drill that lasted me over 12 years using it for a moderate amount of DIY plus the use for the caravan was a bonus. I replaced it with a 2.0ah drill for some heavy use drilling DIY coming up and use it for the caravan though it is somewhat overkill for that purpose and went over your price limit. You will have seen a Dewalt 1.5ah cordless in Screwfix for around £90 which seems a decent drill for the price. If you don't do much in the way of DIY some people find that the cheaper drills in Lidl and Aldi suit them. There's plenty of good brand names around, Makita, Hitachi are a couple that my friends use.

I have recently got an Erbauer (sp.?) from screwfix for about £60. Despite giving it some stick around the house, its been well up to the job, and more than enough for camping requirements. The batteries last a long time twixt charges, and its lightweight, and has a quick-loading chuck.

Was very disappointed with a cheap Black and Decker cordless that I bought a few years ago; batteries died very quickly.
However, delighted with my 1.3Ah Dewalt. I would buy one again; more expensive but you get what you pay for.

Hi Pixie_Hez
I use the Makita 18v 1.5Ah.
Found this to be brilliant, with a decent drill bit it has no problems drilling into engineering brickwork.
Use this on caravan steadies as well
It's for sale in B&Q for £100 & comes with spare battery.
Best feature I found is as it has Li-ion battery it's a 1 hour charge & you have full capacity in the battery until it dies meaning no slowing down when in use then just simply replace it with the spare
Regards Graham

I have had several cordless drills over the years, and the one problem with all of them has been batteries! I haven't managed to wear out a single one of the drills, and I still have a few of them, but all except the last two have knackered batteries. Problem is that buying a new battery often cost as much as (or more than) the cost of buying a new drill!
The last one I bought was a cheapie from Argos, and I bought it specifically to take with me in the caravan, and so far it has done all I wanted of it. They still have them and they cost £21. In my experience it can pay to buy the cheapest one you can find, and throw it away when the battery claps out. Unless you need it professionally of course, as that's quite a different matter.
------------- Best Regards,
Colin

I have Makitas but bought a couple of Aldi's 14v drills for in the allotment and they're so good that I've bought their 20volt drill and that is even better.
I tend to use the 20v the most

I got a good Bosch at B&Q for about £75 ... used in my workshop for pretty well everything .... and on holidays for PeggyPeg pitching and with an attachment for winding steadies up and down.
Wouldn't be without it!
