The problem with our 2012 caravan fridge (Thetford) has been the small spring breaking in the top-mounted door latch. It works under torsion, and I think it failed due to having only just over two turns in the coil, causing it to be overstressed - 4 turns would have improved its flexibility.
The spring would cost only pennies to produce, but it is not available as a spare by itself. I had to buy the whole latch assembly, which cost in the region of £10
I don't know how often these springs break - selling the whole assembly (the main body shows no signs of wear) must be profitable for the manufacturer, but discarding of otherwise perfect latch assemblies is not so good for unnecessarily dumping more plastic waste into the environment.
