Has anyone got any feedback on the SoLiD system of construction that Eldiss,etc use. Is it working or are they still having damp problems like any other caravan.

I have a 2014 Compass Omega (SoLiD) purchased new 2015 had it's second service last November and everything was OK, no problems with damp. However, it has had the rear panel changed due to cracks at the top sides and the Heki rooflight and roof boards changed, due to 30% damp around it, this was at it's first service under warranty.

You must remember that no matter how waterproof the basic box is, they fill it full of holes for awning channel, access doors for toilet, battery, pump, underbed storage access, then add road lights, roof lights, windows, doors, gas locker.

All caravans have this basic design flaw caused by customers wanting the facilities.

I agree with mavver.It depends on the person adding sealant round the windows etc. Miy Bailey floor was rotten due to badly sealed handles.Nearly new Alu tec.

Hi Robin,
We have a 2013 Elddis motorhome with SoLID body.
We have had no damp issues but as Navver points out
once they cut holes in a body they are vunerable.
All I can say is we are happy with the body work on our van damp wise.

In most cases I would agree with you, but the SoLid system does away with 90% of screws, for example the awning rail is bonded on to the outside of the van as well as the battery box, toilet hatch, gas locker etc etc.

The only caravan's that appear to be built properly are the Eriba Touring models, or am I missing something?.

Our new Elddis is far better constructed than the last Bailey Alu-tec. The roof panels overlap the sides and front so water runs off them. The Alu-Tec construction IMO is poor. There is a butt joint across the roof covered with just a thin plastic strip. Water pools either side of this in the wet. Also the Alu-Tec extrustions prevent water running off the sides. As has been pointed out, the awning rails on the Elddis are glued on not screwed. Time will tell however!

Speaking to one large dealership Service Manager, his opinion was that at the moment the Swift vans were the best, followed by Elddis. He stated that they had not had a warranty repair for damp from Swift in the last 2 years

You are missing leaking through windows rubbers causing steel framework to rot away completely. If you look underneath & see a small bit of rot on the thin steel chassis members then be sure the frame under the skin will be well rotted & the caravan probably beyond economical repair.

we have a 2013 dealer special on the Avante shell - Rambler 20/4 - we had a new rear panel due to cracking after a year plus damp around the Hekis now we have 40% damp in the wheelarches plus 50% around the cassette door. You can see the water trail on one of the wheelarches under the bed, we are now waiting for repair under warranty fot these, it took 6 months to get the rear panel done - it was a common problem, I am not impressed with Elddis workmanship

I had what I thought was a damp problem (levels were around 30% - 40%) turns out is wasn't the shell leaking but the sink plug hole (it was a minor drip, not gushing)

Got the sink plug sorted and everything is fine now, no permanent damage thankfully.
