We had to move our van into a new storage site at the beginning of Sept last yr. The vans are packed in so tightly that you cannot even open the door to look in. Made OH come with me on Sun to see if we could have a look inside. She's being valeted on Wed and didn't want to be first to go into van for a long time. I won't go in on my own as scared of what I might find ...DAMP.
Felt such relief when I got in, as I've been worrying about her for weeks, and she was fine and dry and just as we'd left her...absolutely pathetic I know.
As well is two words!
How does a sage know everything about everything? or does he? or does he just think he does?
Remember, if you buy something you bought it, not brought it.

I'm finding life hard this month, we are renovating our kitchen at home so we may not get away in the caravan. I can't remember the last time we went for a month without a few days away. (being retired does make it easier)
------------- We camped for years. In 2019 we bought an Elddis Avante 454. We like it as it is short (6.9m) and fits in our driveway and has a fixed bed.
We had 127 nights away in the caravan in 2023.

I have a similar feeling when I open my tent bag for the first time after a few months...always expect to find a pile of mildew instead of a tent even though it is stored indoors in the dry. When that fresh tent smell comes out of the bag it is a relief
Same here, my van is on the drive, but under a cover for many months during the winter. It's too much of a bind getting in to check it more than once or twice. So yes, when I go in to check for the first time every Spring, I worry that something is wrong. The reason there's a cover on is because it sprung a leak one winter, which I didn't notice for a few months. That fortunately was able to be sorted, but since then, a cover. At least it can't leak with a cover on, so that's something less to worry about! :)
I went out yesterday to check ours over for the first time in a few months - it's stored outside - and the only damp/mould appears to be on a coat in the wardrobe that I assume must have been damp when it was hung up - the other coats are fine. T'is a relief, but I shall cross my fingers till after the service tomorrow.
We store us on a secure site on a farm. Many years ago, last century, we were checking our van after winter and heard screams of dismay from a nearby van; a mouse/small rodent had got into the van and deystroyed all the cushions and made a start on the curtains. Damp isn’t my main concern since that!
------------- Started with a motorbike and tent.......my gallery, my life.
I think if you take pride in your van it's only normal to want everything ok when it's been standing over winter, ours is stored under cover in winter, but we always go somewhere for 3-4 days to check everythings working ok before our first big trip of the year.
Us too. We are away for a weekend at the end of this month, so we can check everything out and restock the cupboards before our big continental trip at the end of May.
We visited ours last week, following some remedial work being done at the site where we store it. Unfortunately, there was still some damp. Luckily we had put an old towel at the point where we thought the original damp was. The site should have sorted it now. Going to check later....
------------- Freedom is a light caravan and an open road.
Ours is sat in the garage on axle stands...covered with a large dust cover....cant wait to get it out but having had the Beast from the east yesterday -- Snow blizzards and torrential rain...I think I will leave it for a few weeks more...
We have a folding camper and because we had a mice infestation 2 years ago and didn’t ever want to find it anything but perfect when we open her up,we now strip her of everything soft. So, no, you are not the only one that worries about what you might find. We do get attached to our caravans, campers and tents. 😊
