We've recently returned from a trip in our caravan. We were on a hard standing pitch but the awning area was grass(or mud!). We had a lot of rain and the first morning stepped down onto the awning carpet and the carpet sank down into a huge puddle of muddy water. It made for an uncomfortable stay, we rolled the carpet back and tried to drain the wet area, making holes in the ground and keeping the awning ventilated but every time it rained that week we were back to square one!
Does anyone have any solutions? Is there any type of flooring we can get which would help? Any advice appreciated!
It sounds to me like the ground water level was very high, so making holes would make no difference as the ground was saturated. If that was the case, no kind of flooring would help.

Colin

On a site in Greece a few years ago there was heavy rain and our awning flooded. We noticed that some of our neighbours (mostly Dutch and German) had dug trenches around their outfits, which seemed to help with drainage! I'm not sure how well this would go down with UK camp site owners!

we use those interlocking foam mats...cheap ones from Aldi....double layer with a breathable awning carpet on top.....not had problems ...just dry feet.
Thanks for the replies, was wondering if interlocking foam mats would help. Haven't seen the water guard ground sheet before - I suppose if you put the awning up and shut the curtains before getting it out you could get away with it
I know the site at Cleethorpes, their hard standing pitches are great, but the grass ones are often underwater!
We have the Aldi foam mats and great they are. We also got wet floor but that was because though we are on stones there was so much water it came through from underneath. Nothing we can do about that and we have dried out with no problems.
